Historic link could break…

ALMOST a century of tradition could come to an end if the Orange Order votes to break its historic link with the Ulster Unionist Council, according to the News Letter.

Billy Kennedy writes: Lagan Valley DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson, a former Assistant Grand Master of the Order, believes it is now time for a breaking of the link.

“The Order, by not being aligned with one particular party, can play a much stronger and positive role in trying to achieve unity within broad unionism.

“Orangeism can identify with members in the two main unionist parties and, independent of both, it can play a meaningful role,” said Mr Donaldson, a Kilkeel Orangeman.

PS: Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this a bit of a change of heart for Mr Donaldson? Did he not oppose his current position in the past?
