Football Bonanza

Another feast of international football awaits, with games in Cardiff, Belfast, Glasgow and Tel Aviv catching the attention of local fans. Whilst fans of the Republic will have to make do with a battle for 3rd place with an equally lacklustre Welsh side, the North can keep hopes of qualification alive with victory over the Danes tonight (though Mark Lawrenson has just suggested qualification would be a ‘loaves and fishes’ achievement on Football Focus.) As for the mighty Scots, victory against Italy will book their place in the Finals, whilst English hopes rest on Israeli and/ or Macedonian shoulders. Meanwhile, speculation over Steve Staunton’s replacement as international manager has taken a new twist with the news that senior players, led by Robbie Keane, will be meeting the FAI’s John Delaney to discuss the successor. All to play for then!
