I saw some speculation that Martina Anderson might take Matt Carthy’s seat were he elected as TD for Cavan Monaghan next week. I guess it was always unlikely since she could hardly be named as a substitute when elected at the same time last May.
Turns out she’s taking over Ray McCartney’s Foyle seat, meaning that all three former MEPs are now in or heading for Stormont. Her DUP counterpart is ensconced as Economy Minister [the department most involved over Brexit trade deal].
In fact, she hasn’t yet been officially selected, since, as the BelTel reports:
A Sinn Fein source said Ms Anderson is the only candidate nominated to replace Mr McCartney, who is set to step down from the Assembly on Monday.
A Sinn Fein spokesman added: “A selection convention will take place tomorrow, the results of which will be announced afterwards.”
