    Atmospheric maybe, if the boys were marching off to war. Uniforms, flags, exclusion? Sorry, it doesn’t demonstrate atmosphere to me. It makes me uncomfortable.

    I think marching bands across the world tend to adopt a militaristic look. With the possible exception of the local Chucky Beret bands, who only think they do.

    I have to admit your right, loyalists are much better at playing dressy up soldiers than republicans,
    but we do homework clubs better!

    Band parades for me are an example of defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

    They can be superb. They can be atmospheric. The can be rousing. They are a buffer against the western trend of diminishing community spirit.

    But they just sabotage themselves and the whole scene with their tolerance of the more base aspects of the culture.
