#AE11: Bring us your turnout figures?

Okay guys, it is past 12 noon and it’s time to collect as many turnout figures as we can… This is, as ever, an inexact science. But we have done this for the last three years and are starting to get a history that gives us an idea how things are going… so can you use the form below to drop your figures in…

Use the comment zone to let others know what polling stations/boxes you have logged… We have a new head man at the Electoral Office, so I am not sure what the instructions are this year… But it would be surprising if they rolled back on an important step towards…

We just need: Constituency; Polling Station location; Time you have the turnout figure; and box number. And of course the number of votes cast and the maximum number of votes for each box…

If you can’t get near Slugger to do this, ping me an email (editor@sluggerotoole.com) a DM on Twitter to @mickfealty, or text me on 07984150399… and we’ll enter them manually…

From Mark: Just a note to say our figures from 2010 (sample size – 75 boxes) had an average noon turnout of 15.8%.

“Jennymount Methodist Church, Shore Road, North Belfast Constituency. Fred Cobain was there and he looked a forlorn figure I have to say. Could be he knows the writing is on the walls. Anyway the figures.

“Assembly Box 38 Eligible Voters 1041 Voted at noon: 131

“Council Box 38 Eligible Voters 1041 Voted at Noon 130 ( seems odd that we one difference here)

“Referendum Eligible Voters 999 Voted 130”

  • Mick Fealty

I can see our forms may not work… since it was repurposed from Last year…

    So, just keep them coming…

No FJH There seemes to more people eligible to vote in the elections than in the referendum in this case, barring a mistake in the polling station figures.

We seem to be on average looking at 10% at 1200 and about 25% at 1700. At this rate will we even get 50%?

I hope to post four boxes from the North Coast area, for all times, later – but I do recall making a couple of posts about low turnout. I’m hoping to be proved wrong by the 5-9pm turnout…

    jeep55,

Thanks for the Dundela Infants figures we have them from 2010 to compare (we need to use the total as the number of boxes changed):

    5pm 33.1% 25.5%

Note: at 5pm in 2010 our sample average had turnout running at 32.8%

Our (small, unscientific) sample is showing a 5pm turnout of closer to 25%.

Last year at the same time we were at 32%.

  • Comrade Stalin

I did not jot down the numbers but a quick squint at all the boxes in both Whiteabbey Primary and St Peter’s Antrim Rd had the 5PM turnouts between 25-30%, consistent with reports here.

Some places are going to be tight with the 10PM deadline. I note the polling cards are saying specifically that ballot papers will not be issued past 10PM even if people are still queuing. Holding three polls at once appears to be more staff intensive as well.

  • The Raven

Howdy. Had a couple of mates geared up for late voting, so we pulled these together round Coleraine. I am not familiar with all of them, hope to have some more north coast ones later. I have NO idea how these will look once I hit the send button. But in case it’s unreadable:

Turnout varied from 43 to 57%.
    Most voting from 5pm onwards.
Seemed to have been some mix-up with polling stations, but that was down to people who attended one from time in memoriam and not checking their cards.
There’s a broad mix of socio-economic background here, but – and I hate to use this term – the perceived working class stations seem to have less of a turnout than a couple which are bang in the middle of more swanky residential areas.

Make of that what you will, those are another collector’s words, not mine.

My words are: are we REALLY happy with a society with – at worst – 43% and – at best – 57% turnouts….?
