We’ve got Londonderry themes, now we need Derry writers…

We’ve taken a bit of a break from the Derry essay series, but we hope to restart from tomorrow. I’ve been reviewing some of my notes from the Facebook group meeting on some of the themes that came up, and which I’d like to ask people to write to if they feel so able. Here’s a selection:

  • What has happened to Radical/Free Derry – “Christiania on the Foyle…”
  • Civil agitation which gave self generated arts organisation
  • Has there been a generational slip… Are those who were politicised now making music rather than politics…
  • Does politics matter any more: One attendee noted a question from one of their children: “Is Sinn Fein supported by the Catholics or the Protestants?”
  • What’s the future of youth, given according to one voice there 30,000 young people in this city…
  • Will they still be compelled to to leave… “Next stop america, we are born to migrate…”
  • What is the difference between a jumbo jet and a Derry man…
  • U4D = Turning Magee into a proper university campus.
  • Swindon
  • The Bridge to Ebrington… Making meaningful connections or another bridge to nowhere?
  • And the new Derry wans: the largley untold story of the city’s immigrants from eastern Europe…

This is just a prompt list… But if you want to write one of these or one of your own, we’ll publish it here on Slugger and our new Derry group blog, Listenderry…
