Genuinely important news: tea is good for you

Amid all the election issues the BBC has brought us the most important news ever. Tea is good for you. Indeed tea seems remarkably good for you (this week) and better than water. Apparently “They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack.” This will mean I will live forever since I drink about 8 to 10. However, this being Slugger and Northern Ireland I think we need to introduce a note of controversy. Coffee is a dreadful drink. We should be very suspicious of coffee drinkers. Coffee has been the cause of an almost indescribable number of problems and its drinkers must take much of the responsibility for the world’s ills.

  • Tony Benn claims to have drunk between eight and ten pints of tea a day, every day, for many years.

He claims that he calculated that he’d drunk enough to float the QE2 in. Which reminds me of something that Lilly Langtree said about Edward VII in reply to his complaint to her that “I’ve spent enough on you to buy a battleship”….

    But maybe another time….

  • It is a relief to know between the cigarettes and the alcohol, I have been doing something right…

” You’ll have some tea… are you sure you don’t want any? Aw go on, you’ll have some. Go on go on go on go on go on go on go on go on GO ON! ”

    Maybe she had a point.

“They found clear evidence that drinking three to four cups of tea a day can cut the chances of having a heart attack.”

and in the ten years on i have found that having a cup of mint tea, well admittedly in the morocan fashion, reduces the risk of a repeat coranary event close to zero. the medical profession is suitably impressed

.. and yes i know this is totally off thread, but just where do our local parties stand on legalisation?…. of tea of course

Turgon, you big eejit, that article dates from 2006.

  • Well done you!

We should all keep to a well balanced diet, regrettably mine is very finely balanced already…

  • Rory Carr

Right, Comrade, which just shows that by drinking lots of tea you will increase your life-span by at leadt 4 years.

  • Rory Carr

Typo correction: “leadt” should of course read “least”. Apologies.

  • Comrade

It was news to me! And the date is important to you because?

  • Lionel Hutz

Could not have said that better
