Davy Sims is the UU’s new press officer…

Davy’s an old friend from way back so there is probably a limited amount I can say on this story, but the former BBCNI Producer started with the Ulster Unionists this morning. A new venture for him, and no doubt the party… Checkov got the scoop first, whilst I was in our SluggerConsults.com at Mullan Training in Amelia Street… I wish him the best of luck with what has proved in the past to be a pretty hard station…

Think this is a great appointment. Exactly right for the UCUNF project. He ought to help align the UUP very neatly alongside the Tories in online and offline comms.

Its also recognition (finally!) that the UUP needs professional / expert communications people. And that they need to be communicating effectively across all platforms.

Minor point though Mick – not wishing to deny Chekov his reputation for scooptastic blogging, but I’m sure he’ll readily agree that it was Ivor Whitten at Hand of History wot done it.

  • Bobby,

“Exactly right for the UCUNF project”

Better communications will make feck all difference(the last guy was pretty good anyway), they would be better off appointing an anthrpologist/translator to bridge the cultural divide between an increassingly modern British Tory party and a stubbornly sectarian and anti agreement Irish UUP.

Simply telling everybody that all is fine wont fool the Plain People of Ulster who have just listened to all the jibber-jabber about new politics and then watched on in amusement as the Obama administration and all the mainland parties kicked the UUP round the houses for being anti-agreement .

Dont change the wrapping change the fecking product.

    Protocol warning:
For those of a particulalry tribal and/or sensitive disposition and those unable to judge an arguement on it’s merits please be aware that the term Unionist in my name is not entirely accurate though it should be noted that my paternal grandfather was a keen supporter of the Union and I am invoking the FIFA grandparent rule am opting to call myself so. (I’m sure he would have approved.)

  • Harry J

i wonder if this means the UUP will have more sucess in amending camerons statements in future.

what is a super injunction? Can anyone get one?

  • Drumlins Rock

why? what have you been up to alan? 🙂

    hope its nothing naughty!

Thanks for the clarification MU/IWSMTDI, hope you include it everytime you post.

Davy Sims looks good on paper so far, and espically might have some understanding of younger voters, its not up to him to come up with policy just to present it, basically this should be last time we hear his name mentioned, and only the message should come through, lets hope he resists having his own newspaper column!

Good luck to him, its not going to be easy but the oportunities are as big as the risks.

  • Minor point though Mick – not wishing to deny Chekov his reputation for scooptastic blogging, but I’m sure he’ll readily agree that it was Ivor Whitten at Hand of History wot done it.

Absolutely Bobballs. As indicated by ‘Hand of History reports’ and ‘you can delve into… on Ivor’s blog’. Which I recommend you all do.

‘the last guy was pretty good anyway’

    who was that now?

  • alan56

    DR
I just think that all this ‘injunction’ stuff is crazy. Wish some of the legal eagles could tell us exactly what they mean ie; are they published and if not how are we supposed to know not to say anything about any individuals involved. Seems like real cloak and dagger stuff which eats at the core of freedom of speech (and journalism). It has now reached the stage that you can be more defamed by the rumour surrounding them than the alleged mis conduct.

As you say, good luck to the guy – he really must need a job.

  • Comrade Stalin

He ought to help align the UUP very neatly alongside the Tories in online and offline comms.

Aligning the comms hardly seems appropriate when the policies and attitudes are about as distant as you could expect.

  • andnowwhat

So, how do you convince any free thinking, working class unionists to vote for what they insist is a branch of the tory party.

Surely this is the sort of thing that has held back the unionist/loyalist working class for decades?

BTW, hope they learn that every attack on Sylvia is a X in her box.

  • alan56

Sylvia must surely show her hand soon or she risks looking indecisive..

So, do you reckon Alliance is closer to the Conservative party than the UUP is? Or, at least, the middle class wing of Alliance.
