Clinton at Stormont live blog…

The BBC’s coverage of Hillary’s address to Stormont goes live at 10am… #hillary is the hastag if you’re tweeting… Those expecting the Clinton magic will work this time might bear in mind she is effectively only Obama’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and these words of Mark Simpson:

Resolving the differences between Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionists may need more than some high-powered American charm and gentle words of persuasion.

re. “Resolving the differences between Sinn Fein and the Democratic Unionists may need more than some high-powered American charm and gentle words of persuasion.”

As was pointed out on Slugger many moons ago, modesty forbids me from disclosing by who – failure for the DUP to move was always going to be met with American pressure.

To characterise this as a dispute between SF and the DUP is entriely misleading – EVERYONE barring rejectionist Unionism (some UU, some DUP and all TUV) want the transfer immediately – including SF, SDLP, the 3 governments, the Alliance party,
the PSNI federation and former head.

“Ask what Northern Ireland can do for America” ?

Christ! We’ve given them Andrew Jackson, Davy Crockett and Liam Neeson, what more do they want?

Hilary if you have the money bribe them.

Dollars, Sterling and Euros all accepted.

    Actually anything re-salable will do.

They are politicians after all and thats Irish and British politicians.

Gregory and Willie were having nothing of it. 🙂

Strange reaction and I don’t quite buy the “too busy to hang around and applaud” line.

    Gregory & Willie

This was a very diplomatic kick up the DUP’s jacksie and although the diplomacy may have
softened the blow that was more than offset by the DUP having to thank (they only stood up when the good guys stood up) Hillers for delievering it to them – Gregory & Willie probably didnt have the stomach for that as well.

I will be inspecting the video, but I believe that there was nothing wrong with my tie.

Slabbery: “As was pointed out on Slugger many moons ago, modesty forbids me from disclosing by who”. You’ve jibbered-jabbered an awful lot on Slugger many loons long. But since you’re so modest, do let me ‘disclose’ some of your equally on the ball gems – there was your grand epic about how, if P&J wasn’t transferred, as per *their* timetable, *no later* than 2008, Sinn Five would walk out of the Executive and (somehow thereby) ‘pull the institutions down’; then, not content with that shameless spacerism, you were little-sir-Echo to McMurderous, and brought all your tinfoil gravitas to the matter of the Unionist veto on a Payroll Republican holding the transferred P&J post. Like McMurderous, you too intoned that this wasn’t even theoretically possible, as distinct from, er, possible and done. But Slabbery, as there are so many insights like this that you’ve shared with us over the last few years, it’s fiendishly hard to know which one should be laughest at loudest and longest. Tell you what though, me ould mucker, were you ever to make up a new lie, out of sheer Christian decency, I for one would at least last at that first. Keep ’em coming!
