Barack Obama’s new point woman on Northern Ireland?

Conall reckons Carol Wheeler could be Obama’s first envoy to Northern Ireland, although he also notes the Irish Voice previously had her down as the next US Ambassador to Dublin… He also notes that “the Obama campaign has to date positioned itself on the progressive side of Northern politics”, but the issues he refers to will at the very least need some kind of levering the 2005 Enquiries Act if there’s to be any movement onwards on digging out the truth about the past…

I’m sorry to blow your popsicle stand, but the choice of NI envoy is delegated to the Director of Policy Planning.

Haas and Reiss, as former Directors, decided to take on the onerous task of NI envoy because of the delicate position of the peace process at those points. Krasner, who was Director till 2007, wasn’t interested in teh post and passed it on down the food chain to Dobrianski.

    This status won’t change.

With Iraq, Afghanistan, and the global recession boiling in the bag, Obama won’t give a flying scrote to soem inconsequential rock (NI) at the edge of the Atlantic.

  • Well i’m sure many of us wud agree that it wud b a real sign of change if Obama found room for say just one foreiger in his appointments and i cud think of no-one better for the N.I. envoy post than the English speaking Ukrainian Olga Kurylenko.

As Martin L. King wud say – “We shud all have a dream.”

hate to disappoint Militant Mike but… breaking news on has, as a gesture of Obamas bi-partisan approach, Gov Palin tipped for the prestigous post of NI envoy.

Initial reports are unconfirmed, unclear and garbled but words such as knowledge, style, substance, simpatico and hillybilly are emerging in off the record briefings.

unattributed reports say Ms Palins experience the ‘bridge to nowhere’ uniquely qualifies her for the NI post.

  • Dont agree W.T.

Olga still easily favoutite with me as —

a – seems 2 b neither protestant nor catholic – although i suppose that mite concern/confuse a lot of people.

b – her role in assisting Bond/MI5 or is it MI6? in Quantum of Solace(2008) will surely appeal to many Unionists – and Nationalists who watch the film may even see a soft side to her.

c – her role as a mistreated prisoner wearing very little in Le Serpent (2006) will surely appeal to many Nationalists (& possibly even Unionists too). Seems a shame they couldnt have got her a minor walk on part in Hunger.

    d – she is under 30.

    I rest my case.

    militant mike ,

The jury finds your case of little merit and based purely on feelings of a juvenile disposition towards good looking slavonic babes 😉

The jury finds that Mrs Palins ability and skill at tongue babbling gives her a clear and winning advantage over some good looking slavonic babe called Olga 😉

Politicians in Northern Ireland have been babbling now for several generations to each other in diverse tongues neither understanding each other nor caring or wanting to . Clearly Mrs Palin’s talents in obfuscation can only help to better and improved obfuscation communication between the ‘partners ‘ in NI malgovernance .

It will of course take ‘divine’ intervention for politicians in NI to really hear what themuns are really saying . Mrs Palin is clearly nearer to God than some slavonic heathen and thus a great choice for NI envoy .

I expect this to happen just as soon as all the DUP politicians are struck deaf and dumb and all the SF politicians are struck deaf and blind, and the rest of the political menagerie that passes for ‘politician’ in NI are struck deaf, dumb and blind.

Now if Mrs Palin could ahem intervene with the great sky magician to deliver the goods as outlined in the paragraph above – there are many of us in these islands who would express our eternal gratitude by changing our nationality to American and ensure in a future voting opportunity that Mrs Palin gets to shoot at the ‘godless ‘ Russians not from the coast of Alaska but from the steps of the White House 😉

‘and ensure in a future voting opportunity that Mrs Palin gets to shoot at the ‘godless ‘ Russians not from the coast of Alaska but from the steps of the White House’

… very astute Greenflag: Today Belfast, Tomorrow the world

‘all the DUP politicians are struck deaf and dumb and all the SF politicians are struck deaf and blind, and the rest of the political menagerie that passes for ‘politician’ in NI are struck deaf, dumb and blind. ‘

don’t know how to break this to you gently but, ah, you’re a bit behind the curve on this one.

aren’t they currently arguing, sorry debating, what sign language (british or irish?) to use?

  • The American envoy should be somebody completely different to all of the six county politicians just to let them know how diverse the rest of the world can be

Might I suggest a black gay female jew/muslum/hindu that has a dislike of anything Irish/British and that really enjoys small town hick politicians kissing their ass and is delighted to let them know it.

That sounds like Sammy Davis Jr in drag blinding.

Sammy would be too good of an entertainer to waste on six county politicians if he were still alive.

  • The Watchman

I know of at least one DUP high heid yin with a limitless admiration for Mrs Palin. If she ever wanted a career in the DUP, a seat would be found for her promptly.

you’re onto something. I just realised that in those interviews derided by the liberal elite media (well also by my 8 yr old son) she was actually speaking ulster-scots.

  • Greenflag

‘she was actually speaking ulster-scots. ‘

And there I was thinking she was talking through her erse ;). Either way she’ll be a hit with the tongue babblers of Norn Iron . Anyone who dresses up for dewitching rituals will surely be welcome when the local blackmen get decked out in their finery 🙁

Do you really think Obama cares? Biggesr fish to fry.

Word has it too that the traditional Irish American lobby burnt their bridges with him when it went OTT in its support for Hilary during the primaries…….

  • WindsorRocker

Was this why he picked Irish Joe Biden as his running mate.

The first task of an American president is to start his re-election campaign. The Irish democratic electorate will have to be kept sweet to aide this task.

Mea Culpa. I got it wrong guys.

Palin to be new ambassador to Africa. See below

Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska has reached out to President-elect Obama’s transition team to indicate her interest in being named “ambassador to the nation of Africa,” the governor confirmed today.

Gov. Palin said that although she had planned to continue in her position in Juneau, she was willing to leave the governorship “because Africa is just such a darned important country.”

“I have always been very, very interested in the nation of Africa, partly because of it being located where it is,” she said. “If you are standing in Africa and you look real close, you can see South Africa.”

She added that she had received phone calls encouraging her to vie for the post, including one from French president Nicholas Sarkozy.

In other news from the Palin family, Bristol Palin’s fiancé Levi Johnston said he was “totally stoked” about Tuesday night’s election returns, calling the results “definitely a game-changer for me.”

“The election of Barack Obama means different things to different people,” he said. “To me, it means freedom, dude!”
