DUP taking a lesson from Dromore?

Yesterday Suzanne Breen was predicting big changes and they seem to have started to come to fruition quickly. It would appear the DUP is taking the Dromore result seriously.

  • Blooper

Yes is the short answer to the question. Clean sweep – new faces, new approach etc.

  • Seems Paisley jumped before further allegations come into the public domain.

After the Greens’ motion of no confidence in Junior at the weekend, the DUP will have to take ‘green power’ more seriously…

He resigned within 48 hours of the Party’s vote of no confidence at the Wellington Park Hotel!

  • The can make Junior a scapegoat all they like. The fact is all the DUP are dodgy, Junior was simply the one that didn’t cover his backside enough. Scratch the surface of the DUP and you will see corruption to the core.

  • Butterknife

    Then scratch more!

Did you manage to keep a straight face while you wrote that? The Green Party rate just above the cleaning lady of the OFMDFM’s office in terms of influence.

Putting them on a power with the Alliance

  • “It’s not just the Doc. There are too many smiles on too many bakes among our people at Stormont. We appear smug and pleased to be in power.”

At least there’s one DUPer with some self-knowledge. You have to remember the great esteem in which DUPing people hold themselves. Just as the Great Leader came to believe all the adulation his party gave to him, his party believes they are the ones who saved Ulster, without whom Ulster would have been lost, (etc. etc.) This distinct lack of humility helps to explain the enthusiasm for a political settlement over which they would once have roasted Captain O’Neill on a spit. With a lack of humility goes smugness and administrative incompetence. No wonder Allister was able to rattle them so badly.

…but still above the Ulster Unionists!

  • red branch

We all can sneer at the other parties darth, but the DUP has now the proud boast of being the first Party having a minister forced out of office.

When we consider some of the other incompetents around – Ruane for instance its really some boast!

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Re. Oxtering oot of Junior.

As a keen Oolster Scots language fan could someone please confirm that the final word in the statement “There are too many smiles on too many bakes” ( posted above ) is a prime example of same.

  • Perhaps that might be a Nigella Dodds’ Portballintrae bake, Sammy.

  • David Vance

    Peter Doran,

No one listens to the Greens. whose performance in Dromore was hilariously poor. But the poor old DUP have been forced to sacrifice the Lobster-fishing enthusiast as Robinson and co circle the failing Doc. Pounder’s first comment is spot-on, this is merely indicative of how “our” politicians behave. Isn’t it just grand to have our own wee trough, I mean, or own wee Assembly?

  • joeCanuck

    The Green Party.

I wonder how many people in N.I. think that they are some sort of republican party and will never vote for them.

  • Blooper

    Pounder (APNI hack)

DUP corruption eh? Trevor Lunn just admitted on Stormont Live that he enquired from party colleagues if he could pay rent to himself/a property company!

    ROFLMAO!

You know fine rightly thats not all he said. As a newly elected representative he asked clarification from more experienced colleagues and from the Finance Office before he acted. If others had followed the same example they’d still be Junior Minister.

  • Frustrated Democrat

    bake = beak (mouth)or face

As in “I’ll hit ye a smack in the bake”

  • Frustrated Democrat

    Big decisions

Move too far towards Allister and lose ex UUP voters who wany progress or stay where they are and lose out to Allister.

Life isn’t easy when you actually have to make things work……….not throw stones at those who are trying. If the UUP had a leader and were organised with policies they could be reaping in a large harvest. Rules changes in the UUP aren’t a substitute for policies they are rule changes and won’t gain a single vote.

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Frustrated Democrat

It was a query relating to the word’s etymology rather than it’s meaning – is it Oolster Scots?

  • Dewi

    Yes It is Sammy.

  • SHOCKED AND HORRIFIED, DERVOCK

I think the DUP should follow Iris Robinson’s brave example. Just read Mark Davenport’s report of her very traumatic school experience at the hands of a ‘very small male teacher!’

I am sure this must be libelous for Alliance Youth to make such a statement. As an executive member of the DUP I take great exception to this outlandish statement I would expect Slugger to remove this post before it is in trouble as well

  • Blooper

Wriggle, wriggle! He said he enquired about paying rent to himself! Maybe you didn’t hear him all the way up their on your high horse!

First of all I’ll restate my position that I am not here speaking for all of Alliance Youth, just as myself, Stephen Herron AKA on this site as Pounder. Post under a real name with a real email address if you want to play legal games. DUP and SF types seem to be very capable of throwing arround all sorts of legal threats then doing sweet fanny adams about it when push comes to shove. Seems that almost the DUP are terrified of free speech, complaints about use of the Freedom of Information Act and now faceless threats of legal action. Don’t sing it, bring it.

Yes he enquired, where did I say he didn’t. The fact is he enquired, was told it was a bad idea and he dropped the matter, he didn’t persue it, he didn’t pay himself any rent, he isn’t the one who had to resign of overwhemling amounts of corruption and abuse of power. What is your problem in comprehending that?

  • Blooper

Temper, temper! I have no problem in comprehending anything – least of all your holier-than-thou approach.

4 out of 7 APNI MLAs employing family members.

1 MLA admits to enquiring he could pay rent to himself.

People in glass houses and all that Pounder. LOL!

Well atleast you finally admitted that Trevor didn’t actually do any wrong, unlike the subject of this thread. As for a holier than thou approach, maybe that just your reading of it, project an inferiority complex much?

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

    Dewi,

thanks for that – good site.

Did you see Kaydiff come unstuck ? I would put Luke Fitzgerald into Irish team in a straight swap for Murphy. If we can’t thrash the porridge eaters we may as well give up and Fitzgerald would surely add to our points total – which still couild decide the championship. We could then stick Horgan back in for your boyz where there will be a bigger need for defence.

So they don’t have lunch and coffee breaks where you work? More to the point who are you anyway? For all my failings I’ve admited who I am and everything I’ve claimed to be is verifiable, I’m not some random troll with a made up name and a faked email account here just to stir the pot.

  • dewi

Sammy – only saw bits but Blues very disappointed in WM today- blown league chances.Caber tossers in bit of turmoil but not predicting nowt (Pasta munchers got evil eye on us)

  • DC

Dear dear, of all people running around wanting to pay rent to himself, T Lunn is already well established financially, well beyond the need to inquire into that little trickle of cash.

However, if he actually had to pay rent out to someone then all well and good, that means that you have an office that requires staffing etc, a real need for it.

A stupid move to make given the current direction of public opinion which must call into question the principle motive of inquiring into it in the first place. To benefit whom exactly?

  • Pancho’s Horse

Dewi, have to niggle with you about ‘bake’ which is rustic pronunciation of ‘beak’ which is standard English meaning ‘front of face’ Do not carried away with sites like that.

  • William

I wonder did any of you read the following newspaper article?
    ____________

    Junior Minister culled over brown-tongue

A Junior Minister & MLA is to be culled on a County Antrim holiday resort following confirmation of the brown-tongue disease.
Today, Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew said that an MLA imported from the Lisburn area, who had contracted the disease had been culled.

A further 23 MLAs and 9 MPs will now be slaughtered following further tests.

Ms Gildernew said the area would remain under restriction.

“This result does not mean that the disease is circulating here, and at present the north retains its brown-tongue free disease status,” the minister said.

Seen in a local paper this evening:

    ______________

A Junior Minister & MLA is to be culled on a County Antrim holiday resort following confirmation of the brown-tongue disease.
On Friday, Agriculture Minister Michelle Gildernew said an MLA from the area who contracted the disease had been put down.

The MLA had been imported from the Lisburn area. A further 23 MLAs and 9 MPs will now be slaughtered following further tests.

Ms Gildernew said the area would remain under restriction.

I see Seymour Sweeney has put out a statement regretting Junior’s departure! Well, he would, wouldn’t he?

  • Yes, greens can laugh at themselves….and are under no illustions about their influence on this side of the border (for now)

Anyone following the DUP’s attitude to climate change, renewable energy and building regulations – of course – would have caught the reference to ‘green power’.

    Try a little irony….

    Take it for granted even.

  • Pancho’s Horse

William, I wasted quite a bit of time examining your two posts to check if they were identical.

  • William

    Poncho…

You shouldn’t waste your precious time…responding…what 2 posts are you talking about…????

  • dewi

“Dewi, have to niggle with you about ‘bake’”

How dare u niggle Pancho – Like I’m an expert…..

  • Pancho’s Horse

William @ 8.17 and William @ 8.21 and time spent critically examining posts is never wasted. Dewi, how can a Welshman be expert in the hamely tongue? I’m stunned at your grasp of the Queen’s English hee hee.

  • “It would appear the DUP is taking the Dromore result seriously.”

f-d, the horse had gone long before the Dromore Derby.

What sort of outfit is DUP Inc? Does it not advise its public representatives who have a flutter in the property market about some of the basic aspects of company law?

I understand Peter Robinson once worked as an estate agent and he currently has a shareholding in Union Arch Properties registered in Kesh, Co Fermanagh, so he should be able to give practical advice to his colleagues.

Let’s look briefly at Sarcon (No 250) Limited. According to documents at Companies Registry the sole current director is Seymour Sweeney and Sarcon Compliance Limited is the Group Secretary. [Sarcon is an anagram of Carson (McDowell)]

According to CR a change of directors must be registered within 14 working days and CR has up to 5 working days to process the documents. CR is undergoing change, staff have left so there is currently a bit of a backlog so the 5 might well be extended by a few days.

SCL is a regular customer of CR so, if James Currie, Junior’s father-in-law, has been a director for months why didn’t SCL do the paper work? If the SCL paperwork is current ….

Also, why didn’t Seymour Sweeney (or his legal eagles) ensure that his name was removed from the position of sole director of Sarcon (No 250) Limited if he’s no longer in that position? Presumably Sweeney/Seaport pays CMcD a hefty fee to keep them on the straight and narrow.

Carson McDowell: “We recognise that by getting to know our clients better we are much more in tune with their individual needs. That’s why our partners like to keep a personal involvement in all transactions providing an exclusive ‘tailor made’ service”

    Who’d buy a suit ….?

  • seimi

Just to wind up the OOlster Scots wans, ‘bake’ = beak. Gaelic for beak/mouth = ‘gob’, as in ‘shut yer gob.’ So maybe, just maybe, your precious US word is derived from a much older language – Irish.

  • Gaelic gab: a tattling mouth; from Scottish gab (do.), Middle English gabben, to chatter, mock, Norse gabb, mockery, Old Fris gabbia, accuse [source MacBain

  • Pancho’s Horse

Gaelic ‘gob’ pron gub …. bird’s beak fig mouth (source Pancho)

  • I’m from north Antrim and I recognise ‘shut yer gab’. I don’t see any etymological link between ‘bake’ and ‘gob’.

PS Slugger O’Toole aka The Tattler?

  • Blooper

    Punder

Pseudonyms and nom-de plums are permitted on Slugger and when last I checked I’m under no obligation to reveal my identity to you. It is generally accepted that when people veer off during discussions to demand those they are having discussions with reveal their identity that they have run out of argument.

Any-hoo, spit the dummy all you like, but don’t get on your high-horse and accuse every individual who happens to be a member of a political party of being corrupt, least of all when you yourself belong to a party where more than 50% of its assembly members employ family relatives and where one of your MLAs admitted on television that he enquired from his party colleagues and the Finance Office at Stormont (according to you) if he could pay rent to himself – when he himself is known not to be short of a few quid.

What would have happened if he had been told by APNI or the Finance Office that it would have been acceptable to pay rent to himself?

Think on these things before you make sweeping statements accussing others…

  • Blooper

    Pounder

BTW, are you related to any APNI MLA?

  • AntiChrist

So the Greens do bad in Dromore.

David Vance laughs at the Greens.

But the AntiChrist wonders about the voters of Dromore.

And the Protestants’ doomed yearnings for yet another Messiah.

    His name is ………Allister!!!

    Jokers.

Oh dear, Pounder still not replied?
