When the future looks bleak, look to the past?

Remind us what happend two minutes later! 🙁

That was a good Irish team but had one great weakness in not killing off the opposition and allowing Lynagh to score at the other end with only minutes left on the clock.
That hurt me more than last weekends debacle because I did not expect anything different.
The present team are only average and on a downward slide. They may end up as bad as the Welsh or Scots and may take years to recover.
    No hope in sight

The one good thing to come out of that game in 91 was that, had Ireland won, NZ would have hammered them in the semi and faced England in the final. That would have given England the world championship in 91, when the team was packed with insufferably smug gits like Carling, Guscott, Andrew and Moore. A small mercy, but an important one, I feel.

You really look for a silver lining but I must agree because that English team was reasonably good althouigh I think NZ would still have beaten them to follow on with their success in 1987.

Sorry to spoil the nostalgic moment. Was there not the hint of a double movement in that try?

  • SCI

Try definitely should not have been. It was already knocked on before he crossed the line.

In addition, Australia could have opted for an easy penalty to equalise right on the death – but still opted to go for a try to win the game. Needless to say Lynagh crossed fairly easily.

    Seamus,

I’m going to Paris on Friday, wondering how to do it with some equilibrium. If Ireland could only pull out that kind of performance, I’d come back a happy man. Win, lose or draw. As it stands.

    DO:

Maybe. Hard to tell whether he grounded it or not on that quality of video.

  • Donnacha

Mick, ’tisn’t equilibrium you’ll need, rather a hipflask of Black Bush to: a)ease the pain; and b)get around the no booze in the stadium rules.
