Cultural confusion in Benidorm…

THIS is quite bizarre, as well as offensive – what appears to be a bar in Benidorm that goes out of its way to make visiting loyalists welcome. Not for those easily put off by sectarianism, but certainly an odd (to say the least) clash of cultures. Is ‘Ali the Paki loyalist’ for real? Or is it a piss-take?

    They are the people.

    AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

  • Quagmire

They are all just horrible. If he lived on the shankill he’d be burned out by now. Gimps!

  • I once stumbled upon a bar in Benidorm known as the Golden Last when over for an away game. The Ulster flag drew us in, but it was more or less a loyalist theme bar. Suffice to say, every niche of scum culture is catered for in Benidorm.

  • Lorraine

good to see threads like this on as maybe they will help convince others just how offensive expressions of “cultural rights” and Queen’s Highway and all that trash is to decent people. maybe this is a new departure for the Brethern, failing in coat-trailing exercises at home they are heading off to sunny Spain to show the fenians there who is boss!!!

Lorraine, you forgot about celebrating the death of children on bonfires on the eleventh night. The more sudden and tragic the death of the child, the better…

NO worse than catholics voting for a political party who murdered men women and children without mercy for the best part of 40 years, especially if they happened to be a prod.

No worse than the millions of your fellow British citizens who voted in a government that killed millions of men, women and children in Iraq and elsewhere.

Still, it is reassuring to know that someone will try their best to defend the taunting of grief-stricken parents over the death of their child.

    Well done.

  • Mick. The last 4 posts appear not to be remotely on topic,

  • The Third Policeman

Ziznivy not wanting to start an arguement on how many counties are in Ulster, but what flag do you mean when you say ‘Ulster flag’? The 9 county Ulster flag or a northern Ireland flag? Its just it’d be pretty funny if these foreign loyalists were so clueless as to fly a 9 county flag used by the GAA.

  • Northsider

Mick. The last 4 posts appear not to be remotely on topic,

Mick, those posts are critical of aspects of loyalist ‘culture’ evident in the clip and in the original post by BG.

If Ziznivy can’t bear it and wants to censor the thread then that it is his business, I just wish he’d be honest about it.

  • Utter bullshit. Ropy goings on in a Benidorm bar have nothing to do with the Orange Order. What we have here is the usual frenzy of generalisation, conjecture and abuse from republican posters which simply wouldn’t be tolerated the other way around. If the antics at some dodgy Irish American pub were used as a jumping off point for slamming Irish culture in general we’d see some gurning.

Of course there’s the usual Shinnerisms about coat-trailing etc. Where do you learn to circumscribe your use of the language with such clichés?!

As for the Ulster flag – the Northern Ireland flag – the Ulster banner. Everyone knew what I meant, you included.

  • Teach

No worse than the millions of your fellow British citizens who voted in a government that killed millions of men, women and children in Iraq and elsewhere.

Could you please give a link or links showing some substantial evidence of the millions of people you say have been killed by British troops Northsider. As far as I was aware most of the deaths in Iraq were due to insurgents and the sectarian violence. But if you have evidence to show that the British troops are the ones planting the car bombs and killing large numbers of people and putting them in mass graves then I would be grateful if you could show me where you get this information from.

  • Cahal

Ziznivy, this may come as a shock, but most nationalists (the ones I know anyway) refer to the Ulster flag as the yellow one with the red cross. You know, the actual Ulster flag.

The one you call the Ulster flag, I usually hear being called the ‘stormont flag’.

As in “those ejits put up a load of uvf and Stormont flags outside the chapel last night”

As for the Pakistani guy, he’s no more offensive than a lot of the bands hired by the OO on the twelfth.

  • In the context of the post, and given that MOST UNIONISTS refer to the flag as the Ulster Flag, did it for a minute cross your mind that it may have been the yellow flag outside the Golden Last?

  • ohdear

that is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I have ever seen – but not entirely surprising…I have seen my fair share of nonsense abroad.

I am a loyalist and find that hugely offensive but have seen scenes equally as silly and offensive in the flesh (then promptly left) in ‘loyalist’ and ‘republican’ bars the world over…..

embarrassing for everyone this type of thing

still reassuring to know catholics have no shame about their campaign of murder against protestants

  • BogExile

It’s bizzare. Is the guy singing retarded? The ‘people’ listening to him and laughing certainly are. Benidorm’s loss…

  • Cruimh

The guy behind the fool with the micophone – Bobby Sands ?

  • The Third Policeman

Like I said Ziz I wasn’t itching for a row, just curious. The only Ulster flag I’ve ever known was the 9 county one. I wasn’t even aware the Stormont flag was called the Ulster banner. No need to get so uptight about the whole thing.

And it occured to me, given how ridiculous that slabber in the video looks, and how clueless most of the world is about the technicalities of our little conflict that its not outside the relms of possibility that some eejit in Benedorm put up the wrong ‘Ulster’ flag. For god’s sake in the past week we’ve seen a topic about a yank confusing obvioulsy loyalist murals with Republican ones! Are you suggesting it couldn’t happen?

  • Realist

Is Rocky McBatts (of You Tube fame also) for real, or is he a piss take?

  • Comrade Stalin

The one you call the Ulster flag, I usually hear being called the ‘stormont flag’.

This is relatively correct. The flag the loyalists refer to as an Ulster flag is the Flag of the Government of Northern Ireland, the one which was suspended in 1972 and subsequently prorogued.

    What rascist Comments?

I was merely trying to establish if there was now a military link between these 2 communities!

Maybe the loyalist community has lost the plot???

  • Oh, I get you now, Rory.
You think the *Asian dude* may be Al qaeda?

Obvious really; after all, he is an Asian telling jokes in a *loyalist* bar.

  • Fair enough TTP. The slight oversensitivity may have been brought about by the other commenters attempts to present the above as a representative slice of Orangeism.

I hope the Rocky guy is for real. He’s hilarious.

  • Brian D’escartassat

Holy shit – every time Orange ‘culture’ sinks to a new low, you think to yourself, ‘it’s not possible to go any lower than that’.

    …and then it does. LOL

  • George Gay

If this scumbag has not a valid work visa, he deserves to be booted back to where he was spawned. A few Pakis got long jail sentencces for incitement to hatred outside the Danish Embassy in London. Why should this tool be any different?

  • Brian D’escartassat

There’s breaking news on the Irish Times website about a teenage Irish holidaymaker having been beaten to death with an iron bar, so obviously the cultural message is being well heeded.

  • CTN

Loyalism has always been a stage act- pity for republicanism it made the provo leadership look good.

  • Doctor Who

I am aware of this bar in Benidorms old town and there is another similar themed loyalist bar in new Benidorm.

The chap in question is a local black marketer, who is well known for trading in dodgy DVD´s. I would suggest he´s doing this for a few Euros.

While it is quite clearly offensive and juvenile it doesn´t touch on Rocky Mcbatts who is indeed sickening and has been described as a heroe amongst many young Republican barbarian thugs.

What surprises me most about the comments so far is that no one has mentioned the child filmed in balaclava and armalite, infinitely more disturbing if you ask me.

  • Rule Britannia wave the rules.

    Teach,
Millions killed by British, let’s see; Africa, slave trade, North Americans, French Canadians (Quebec), East India, Malaysia, Kenya, Caribean (Jamacia, Bahamas), Scotland, Ireland, British soldiers fought on the side of the White Russians, during the Soviet revolution, the middle east, Suez Canal, Palestine, Japan, China, United States of America, Iraq, Afghansistan (twice) Yugoslavia, I’m sure I’ve forgotten many more places the British have been. The sun never set on their murderous empire. What is your problem? Do you read history or what. As a Tanzanian friend once told me in his country, there is a saying, If you see a pond with two fish fighting, you know the British have been there.

Not too mention there offspring in USA, Chile, Domincan Republic, Brazil, invaded Canada, Grenada, Veit-Nam, Korea, Mexico, Russia, Wouned Knee etc. etc. etc.

If you really don’t believe The English have killed millions, perhaps you do believe what George Bush said, after 911, describing America, “We are a peaceful nation.”

I guess next you’ll be telling me that the British did not prop up a corrupt Oarnge sectartian state with military force, and that Ian Paisley believed in equal rights back in 1966, and of course Cromwell never touched Ireland’s shore and didn’t really want to hurt anyone, just needed to give us the great democracy of England, replete with no constitution. And of course in Iraq, where people live in dire poverty has nothing to do with all the oil going out to pay for the military industrial’s latest imperialist jaunt out in the country, sure they are only saving the Iraqis by destroying them.

Please get a grip, read a little even, and get real.

  • Rule Britannia wave the rules.

North American Indians that should read, ever here about trading blankets infected with small pox? Go to the library Teach.

  • George Gay

It’s revealing the Billy Boys and their slappers have to hang around together with their off spring wearing knock off Rangers gear. No wonder the only entertainment they can get is this illegal immigrant singing for a bit of Orange ass.

  • Nice to see that you’re an equal opportunity troll George, though you might want to curtail the racism.

  • George Gay

Pounder: The racist Huns find him funny precisely because he is a Paki. They loook a pathetic bunch sitting there in Rangers gear sipping their dregs listening to a moron.

By the way, Timmy Makem died. Why no thread on this? Maybe Trobridge F has some insights.

  • And using the word “paki” isn’t racist? You’re worse than they are because at least they don’t pretend to be holier than thou.

  • Doctor Who

    “Rule Britannia wave the rules.”

What a warped view of history you have, I suggest you stop reading the “British Emnpire” by p. o´neill.

  • Tom

I’ve been to Benidorm several times and I’ve seen and photographed that pub. They are making no mistakes about flags, nor about what sort of clientele they are trying to attract – and what sort they absolutely don’t want. The outside is covered in Loyalist slogans, symbols and flags. My Spanish friends think it is just some weird curiosity, but I found it dismal, dispiriting, depressing – and of course I did not go in.
