Going gooey over the new beginning…

AFTER months of anxious expectation in a protracted process with a couple of false dawns, some unexpected events and hard labour, there is a new beginning. The new Assembly wasn’t the only thing that was dragged kicking and screaming into the real world last week. After some cross-community unity, Baby Gonzo was born at lunchtime on Friday, weighing in at 8lbs 12. He’s healthy and well, as is his proud mom. With any luck, he’ll be growing up in a Northern Ireland that is more stable, tolerant and peaceful than the one most of us here experienced. He’ll be home later today, so I’ll be back after a short adjournment. (This post was sponsored by Kleenex and Pampers.)

They only get better as they get older… especially after they leave home (or so I’m told)… Congratgulations!!

Congratulations Gonzo, hope you had good sleep before those two come home today, because you won’t have unbroken sleep for a long time to come 😉

“AFTER months of anxious expectation in a protracted process with a couple of false dawns, some unexpected events and hard labour, there is a new beginning”

    Well done!

  • Warm Storage

Congratulations, BG! If you get a free moment and want to wet the baby’s head, let me know.

  • “Baby Gonzo” 🙂

Congratulations- at least now you’ll have a legitimate reason to be all night rather than just doing so to read Slugger!

  • DK

Well done – hope you weren’t too blocked in Lavery’s on Saturday night!!!! Last night out at the pub for a loooooooong time

  • Rory

Congratulations to you and Madame Gonzo, may the baby thrive and be happy.

Just remember that all the sleepless nights to come over the next few months are only training for the endless sleepless nights of worry over finance and health and education and then, just when you think it’s starting to ease up……along comes adolesce and teenage frolics. Welcome to hell, Gonzo! (But why then does it feel so much as though we are in very heaven?)

  • hope you weren’t too blocked in Lavery’s on Saturday night!!!!

Well obviously one has to celebrate these things, but I guarantee you were in a sorrier state than I was!

Baby is now home. He is sleeping and is quite a placid type, with not too much crying going on. Apparently, he looks like me, although he has his mum’s button nose. His skin is dry, but apart from that he’s fine. He’s strong for his size, has long limbs and fingers and has a grip that surprised me.

It’s hard not to get a sentimental warm feeling while looking at the little lad, but I don’t care. Right, back to doting.

    Ahhhh…

  • Get him down early for the Junior Orange.

  • IJP

    Delighted to hear it Gonzo!

Another Alliance voter, too, I trust…!

The 18-year plan is going well! 🙂

    That’ll clip yer wings, boyo!!

Congratulations Gonzo, I am so pleased for you. And all the more pleased that your happiness and joy is coming to light in tandem with all the happiness and joy being discovered in NI.

Best wishes to all 3 of you
    Sheila

Well done, Gonzo, and the best of luck with parenthood.

Yep – they have a strong grip. You can pick up a newborn with just them holding onto your fingers. Try it – it’s fun, but make sure you have an emergency “catcher” and that the social worker is outside on their fag break.

  • Comrade Stalin

    Congratulations Gonzo. Breed for victory!!

BTW, “Mom” ? As in “soccer Mom” ?

  • “He is sleeping and is quite a placid type”

Obviously a future Alliance voter then.

  • Belfast Gonzo

Yeah, but when he starts whining, I wonder if he isn’t a potential Shinner, and when he roars, I get worried about him finding himself in the DUP some day.
