PUP launches site…

Shame it’s taken so long, since in look and feel, it is one of the better looking/feeling political sites. Dawn Purvis has also begun a blog, to aid in her bid to take over David Ervine’s East Belfast seat. Her difficulty would appear not simply to be in retaining Ervine’s base, but also a much better organised vote management campaign from the DUP.

  • Not clear from the site where I can get my cheap drugs.

    Try the UUP site…

  • sean Og

Good web site. They’ll not be able to afford to run it after the election. I expect them to fold or join the UUP with 2 years.

    I see ski-masks are 2 for £5 though.

  • “They’ll not be able to afford to run it after the election.”

I’m afraid your mistaken Sean. It’s produced, developed and run from within the party’s skill pool.

Will the UUP still be about?

  • Doreen

The new mural is a breath of fresh air, and the pun on “Dawn” is welcome good humour. She will get one of my votes.

I detect a big wish for SOME DIFFERENT NEW FACES.

  • willis

You mean you have more than one?

  • Nevin

Before the Dawn – any relation?

  • meme

Nice site, i am very pleasently surprised. Really looks the part, so much so I might actually read through some…nothing worse than parties providing reading material with hideous presentation. hats off!

  • Nevin

On policing policy: “Policing with the community is the way forward for Northern Ireland. Disadvantaged and marginalised communities produce the greater number of victims and the largest volume of crime. Police resources are not finite and should be focused effectively and efficiently. We support the introduction of Police Community Support Officers (PCSO).”

Will the PCSOs in certain areas be drawn from the ranks of the UVF? Did we see the prelude in Garnerville? Will ‘privileged’ paramilitaries continue to receive immunity from prosecution?

  • Nevin

    “within the party’s skill pool”

Will they have an office in the new MI5 building?

  • godiambored

    nevin

dont know how the PUP could be any clearer, davy ervine always said, ‘if they are breaking the law…arrest them!’ if paramilitaries are ‘immune from prosecution’ which some seem to be, that is a slight on that individual and the police service…not the PUP..what else can they do appart from try and bring as many people along as they can and rely on the PSNI to deal with the crimina element?

By they way…on topic – its a very nice site..very smooth

  • Nevin

God…, SP and PUP parapoliticians are ‘managed’ by their respective army councils.

The police are subject to government(s) restraint – they can observe the actions of the ‘untouchables’ but they can’t intervene without political clearance. The process has been labelled, ‘not ruffling paramilitary feathers’.

When it comes to elections it seems that the nationalist electorate is more likely to be taken it by parapoliticians than the unionist one …

  • bruce

Some of the realities of electoral politics will Dawn on them next Thursday.

PUP Developer: “I’m afraid your mistaken Sean. It’s produced, developed and run from within the party’s skill pool.”
I’m sure yous will have the resources to keep it going – fasthosts aren’t that expensive. On the design front though – it looks rushed and not very modern (I think its the same situation with the UUP) perhaps you *should* be looking beyond the party’s skill pool.

  • thisisridiculous

    qubol

That really is a very bad comment and completely ridiculous, you cant really be suggesting that this new PUP site doesn’t measure up looks wise…Sinn fein’s is old school to say the least, The ulster unionist’s is bad but getting better, the DUP’s is quite good if a little bland.

The PUP is at least as good as the DUP’s if not better, in fact I changed my mind it is better (just) It is a similar look but with more imaginative graphics.

And I dont even vote for any of the above parties so have no axes to grind….the sites are getting better but not enough to get me to vote for any of these muppets.

  • Elvis Parker

Personally I feel Ms Purvis et al should be prosecuted by the Housing Executive for defacing public property. Not a reflection on the quality of the mural but if I went out and spray canned a wall with my political preferences and then stood in front of it and had my photo taken and admitted it was my work you would be screamed for me to be prosecuted. No?

  • Aside from the issues of design, it would not be wise to discount Dawn’s chances out of hand. She’s seems to be doing some of the organisational and communication work that Ervine perhaps neglected.

And I would also say that although I expect the DUP’s better vote management to bring them gains in what is a static or even slightly rolling back scenario, this is the first time they have tried it East.

Are you certain the house doesn’t have a home owner you would need to be certain before making such a comment.

thisisridiculous: “That really is a very bad comment and completely ridiculous, you cant really be suggesting that this new PUP site doesn’t measure up looks wise”

Well thats exactly what I’m suggesting – I know if I was presented this by a designer then I would hand it back and ask them to do better. It doesn’t come near the DUP site nor the new SPAR SDLP website. Sure, the Sinn Fein site needs some work – but I’d take it over this new PUP site anyday.
With this PUP site they have clearly tried produce a modern look but from the logo at the top, things just get worse. Its really a series of disparate elements that don’t compliment each over – the stock photography isn’t particularly good (never mind the meaningless woman on a phone on the top banner) and the navigaation is bloacky and difficult to follow.
Its not my intention to be mean but if you come and trumpet your site you should expect measured criticism

  • thisisridiculous

    qubol

It isnt my site and i am not trumpeting it, i just think its good and like mick said ‘one of the better ones’.

I dont think your being ‘mean’ just unfair, you are criticising it for areas that I think the other sites also fall down on, I dont think it is fantastic but it certainly isnt any worse than the others, it is better than most of the other sites and considering they havent had a site in a long time they have caught up quick!

I am a designer and I certainly wouldnt send it back if this was put in front of me, obviously I would tweek and do some things differently but considering they have come from nowhere and taken over most of the parties who have had a web presence for years I am most impressed (but i hope they build on it) as I said-

    SF is just bad
UUP is bad but just got better
SDLP is ok now was awful before
DUP is good if you can handle the busy feel (their election version is calmer) even DUP one was bad until fairly recently.

I have never had cause to visit the Alliance site.

  • thisisridiculous

just back from alliance it might actually be the worst.

  • thisisridiculous / qubol etc

Thanks very much for taking the time to assess the site. We do appreciate any comments / suggestions / actual examples of where we can improve the site.

As you know it is a first release after quite a while and we’ll try and build on it in the future. The guys involved would take any ideas into consideration if you want to send them via the details on the contact page.

    Thanks again.
