Let’s get these parties started

Geraldine Dougan has confirmed concerns over policing. John Kelly and Brendan Hughes are claiming intimidation of republicans who wish to attend policing debates and that SF fear an electoral challenge. A Sinn Fein spokesperson uncategorically rejected the claims:

“This is total nonsense. It has no basis in fact or reality.”

Interesting coincidence, so far SF have lost or cut a fifth of its existing MLAs. This corresponds with the level of outright opposition among SF voters (pdf file) in the Hearts and Minds poll. Meanwhile, 4 DUP councillors (3 Ballymena, 1 Limavady) attended an anti-St Andrews meeting and posed for a photograph with Bob McCartney.

Anyone know who the Limavady DUP councillor is that Fair Deal has referred to?

  • PeterBrown

    It was Leslie Cubitt

I thought it might have been. Thanks PeterBrown. I wouldn’t be reading too much into his posing for a photo with Bob McCartney though.

Let’s look at those cases in more detail:

Pat O’Rawe and Davy Hyland: failed to get elected after putting names forward for selection in Newry/ Armagh. Only Hyland has indicated any concerns on policing, and at that as very much a secondary reason behind what he identified as local problems with the party for his disaffection. In any case, the party has stated the selections for this constituency jave yet to be ratified.

Geraldine Dougan: not seeking re-selection and has publicly raised concerns about policing.

Kathy Stanton: stepped down for personal reasons, remains fully supportive of party.

Michael Ferguson: Died in late 2006.

Kinda blows the coincidence theory out of the water…..

I suggest you check the meaning of ‘coincidence’.

Geraldine Dougan released new statement to the press stating that sf’s(changed) position on policing was her deciding factor in not seeking re-election.
