Rumour Mill: four MI5 men in Northern Ireland…

Well full timers anyway… Whilst we think we have a reasonably reliable source, the only way to really find out is for one of Northern Ireland’s MPs at Westminster to pop the Parliamentary Question asking for the real figure!!

, ,

  • Their furtniture hasn’t been the same since 1992 so no wonder theirs only 4 left.

    Oh you mean MI5

  • Garibaldy

Aren’t they getting a lovely new building that was on BBC News a few months ago. Looked like too much space for so few people. Particularly as they are taking over intelligence so that when the Provos join the policing board that won’t have access to sensitive material.

This might well be true for now Mick, but I doubt it will be for very long.

  • Carson’s Cat

    Mick,
You’ll have to wait until the autumn before you get any reply given that Parliament is in recess until then.

However, even then I’d be happy to wager you any sum you wish to name that you wont get an answer then anyway.

I dont think the Government makes a habit of commenting on security issues such as that. Think its probably best if none of our MPs bother wasting the effort of some Civil Servant (never mind whatever it would cost) to bring forward a non-answer.

No doubt the SDLP will try to make a press statement out of it given their last complaint was about the damned secrecy of MI5! I really do wish the Government would go back to not even admitting their existence.

‘I really do wish the Government would go back to not even admitting their existence’

I agree completely – and I think Nuala O’Loan is wasting her breath demanding that she is able to access sensitive intelligence held by MI5. Box has nothing but contempt for 99 per cent of the Plods, and presumably still less for a glorified pen pushing scrutineer. They are good at their job so let them do it. Long-term they are also intelligent enough not to stand in the way of progress here, unlike Special Branch.

  • circles

“They haven’t gone away you know”

  • micheal

    Ah the pentoxymoron’s

  • Robert Keogh

    MI6 for international affairs,

MI5 for English, Welsh & Scottish affairs

    and now

    MI4 for Northern Ireland…..

Carsons Cat “I really do wish the Government would go back to not even admitting their existence” TheAceofSpades. “Box has nothing but contempt for 99 per cent of the Plods, and presumably still less for a glorified pen pushing scrutineer. Have you guys never heard of DEMOCRACY? You know, the system of government where institutions of the state are answerable to elected representatives. That parliament can not debate the activities of these unelected power brokers, cannot hold them accountable when the break the law, cannot debate their budget, cannot set the rules under which they operate, and cannot veto their senior appointments, suggests to me that “British Democracy” is an illusion.

“Box has nothing but contempt for 99 per cent of the Plods”. You mean they do not support the PSNI/UVF. Lucky they are not fenians or this site would be full of unionist bloggers demanding that the support their local social worker/sheriff.

These people are not just concerned with “terrorists”. In Britain these people were spying on CND, trade unions and legitimate political organizations, they vet and have veto over employees for organizations like the BBC, and they tried to overthrow the elected government of Harold Wilson. They need to be brought under control. And, at the end of the day, they are not even good at what they are supposed to do. The were completely infiltrated by the KGB. (remember Kim Philby reached the no 2 position)

    Heck

I think the people accused of the plans to overthrow Wilson were a group of cold war warriors …. who moved in the same circles it is thought as Airey Neave, Leonard Cheshire (?), Michael Bentine, Harry Sporborg …

Allegedly the Regional Crime Squad in Wales 1972 discovered that Special Branch, at “Force Liaison level” (IE MI5 strings) were secretly monitoring and corrupting police inquiries touching on Sue Ryder and leonard Cheshire Homes.

The Sue Ryder Homes had trustees such as Neave and Sporborg and Head of Support Group Eric Berthoud.

In 1971 Ryder and Neave were involved in releasing 1200 men from german postwar internment.

Well .. who says they were interned ? Official Sue Ryder.

Also in 1971 the UK expelled 105 Soviet diplomats and claims that this fractured the Soviet espionage organisation in UK.

At that time it was suspected that agents of the avowedly Marxist IRA were acquiring information of use to the Soviet.

And one such suspect took an interest in activity at the HQ Care Home of the Sue Ryder and leonard Cheshire homes (and family home of the sainted pair Leonard Cheshire and Sue Ryder) at Cavendish Suffolk.

On January 22nd 1972 at the HQ Care Home volunteer Matron Mary McGill was reported drowned in the home boating lake.

Later that day a young village Pc refused an order by a DI to destroy clothing and footwear to prevent forensic testing.

The New Zealand kin of Matron McGill were misled that death was from natural causes and an inquest was held without their knowledge. The family released cremation consents whilst misled .. and cremation occurred before the family were told the truth .. that their sister had been found apparently drowned and that an inquest within three days of the death had sat and returned a suicide verdict.

The family were thus conned out of rights to full autopsy and rights to inquest representation.

The young Pc had his own problems later in 1972 including being temporarily dead from a medical accident …. which occurred at about the time the Regional Crime Squad Sergeant defying Special Branch intimidation (see above) died rather more permanenetly it seems getting a suicide verdict.

This is the story that makes Martin Ingram go “AAAAAAARGH” (very satisfying .. )

It is probably the case that “Box” does have contempt for 99% of plod.

In this case the feeling is reciprocated.

But if we live in a rule of law then we should be able to put fauth in the Judiciary ?

Chief constable of Suffolk is currently trying to get summary judgement to stop the related civil action tracking to High Court.

Be you ever so high the law is above you ?

Don’t hold yer breath but I am giving it a shot … issued proceedings and representing myself. (Fool for a client)

Short service Plod who would not destroy the forensic …. f-ck em … some things have to matter.

MI5 are not due to assume responsibility for Northern Ireland until 2007. Think of the ‘MI5 Four’as an advanced party.
