On the same day that it emerges that Northern Irish students are, once again, outperforming their counterparts in England and Wales in GCSE exams, it has also been reported that there will be controversial cuts in crossing patrol services at schools in Northern Ireland. The cuts come as the Education Boards are struggling to make ends meet.Trade union NIPSA has revealed that many lollipop staff may be forced to consider quitting their posts because of the dramatic impact new reduced hours are having on their income.
The BELB threw out plans to reduce dozens of lollipop patrols following the successful “Save the Lollipop Service” campaign by the Belfast Telegraph.
It seems that the September return to school will not be a happy one for many of the staff affected by the cuts.
