Slugger Longlisted for this year’s Orwell Prize…

Nice to get some recognition every now and then… The long lists for this year’s Orwell Prize (organised by the Media Standard’s trust have just been announced in London)… Slugger’s just one of 18 blogs chosen out of an entry field of 226…

So thanks to all our contributors for your hard work and dedication to cause to helping get past the spin, from wherever it comes…

Shortlists will be announced at the annual Orwell Prize shortlist debate, which will take place on 24th April at 6.30 in The Boardroom of Westminster University, Regent Street, London W1B 2UW. Should we be lucky enough to make it, the Orwell Prize 2012 awards ceremony is at Church House, Westminster on the evening of 23rd May 2012.

PS, you can find out who else made it when their website recovers from the heavy traffic

Update: Actually Jon Slattery has the long list… And the full entry field is here

For over 20 years, Slugger has been an independent place for debate and new ideas. We have published over 40,000 posts and over one and a half million comments on the site. Each month we have over 70,000 readers. All this we have accomplished with only volunteers we have never had any paid staff.

Slugger does not receive any funding, and we respect our readers, so we will never run intrusive ads or sponsored posts. Instead, we are reader-supported. Help us keep Slugger independent by becoming a friend of Slugger. While we run a tight ship and no one gets paid to write, we need money to help us cover our costs.

If you like what we do, we are asking you to consider giving a monthly donation of any amount, or you can give a one-off donation. Any amount is appreciated.
