Slugger Longlisted for this year’s Orwell Prize…

Nice to get some recognition every now and then… The long lists for this year’s Orwell Prize (organised by the Media Standard’s trust have just been announced in London)… Slugger’s just one of 18 blogs chosen out of an entry field of 226…

So thanks to all our contributors for your hard work and dedication to cause to helping get past the spin, from wherever it comes…

Shortlists will be announced at the annual Orwell Prize shortlist debate, which will take place on 24th April at 6.30 in The Boardroom of Westminster University, Regent Street, London W1B 2UW. Should we be lucky enough to make it, the Orwell Prize 2012 awards ceremony is at Church House, Westminster on the evening of 23rd May 2012.

PS, you can find out who else made it when their website recovers from the heavy traffic

Update: Actually Jon Slattery has the long list… And the full entry field is here

“Slugger has developed a reputation for hosting an (mostly) intelligent dialogue on a range controversial and important issues.”

mostly is probably pushing it even 🙂

Great to see the recognition Mick, lets hope for a Shortlisting and victory! Slugger is a rather unique site.

Well done to everyone involved, despite the occasional degradation into ‘it’s all their fault’, it’s doing an important job of getting people on opposite sides to talk to each other.

It’s nice to have some recognition for a lot of hard and even soft work. Don’t forget to share the prize money with Pete Baker since his input keeps the flag pinned to the mast…

Congrats to all involved -well deserved .

I’m sure if George Orwell were around he’d approve assuming he found the time to finish ‘ Down and out in London and Paris and Athens and New York and Rome and Madrid and Sunderland etc ‘

‘Animal Farm ‘ would probably now be retitled ‘Wall St Animals ‘ or perhaps ‘the City Pig Pen’

And the’ Road to Wigan Pier ‘ could be revamped as the ‘Road to Financial Services Debt Slavery’

    Keep the Aspidistra Flying 😉

Mick, I hate to say it, but reading blogs does not count as getting out more! On that note i’m off out to the real world.
