“Working with collections and individuals all over the UK…”

As the BBC notes, 1,600 oil paintings from National Museums Northern Ireland have been digitally photographed and added to the online project to create a complete catalogue of all oil paintings in the UK national collection.  From the BBC report

Paintings by artists such as Bacon, Gainsborough, Gertler, Lavery, Lessore, Lorenzo Lippi, Lowry and Turner are among the paintings.

This rich and varied collection is the first Irish collection to join the site and will be joined by 1,200 other paintings from over 30 collections across Northern Ireland later this year.

The National Museums NI collection is here.  There’s an element of public involvement, and the information on individual artworks includes “Where to see this painting?”  As long as someone hasn’t borrowed it, that is…
