Only a Mathematician: Chin Up Bar…

Somewhere between hilarious, and horrendous…

  • Cahir O’Doherty

Fantastic, but sadly missing the alt text, which is also good:

‘Those few who escaped found the emergency cutoff box disabled. The stampede lasted two hours and reached the bottom three times.’

  • Mick Fealty

It’s the beautifully understated sociopathy of it that gets me… familiar territory for mathematicians I’m told… 🙂

  • Pete Baker

“familiar territory for mathematicians I’m told…”

You might well think that… 😉

  • Just a cheap joke, nothing more nothing less.

  • Don’t know why you find it so, Articles. I find it to be hilarious.

  • Hi Joe

We’ve both responded already to the cartoon so the game’s abed but in answer to your query; because its manufactured and contrived and none of the characters live and breathe. Effectively you can begin the cartoon three frames from the end.

It works (admittedly not very well) if say there’s a big spider at the top of the escalator . We can relate to this aspect of the human condition (and we can even do it in one frame), we can even make it surreal by making the spider miniscule and the commuters lion tamers, great white hunters etc

What next in the continuing series of 101 manslaughters. Man going round and locking all the doors in a cinema and shouting “fire”( number of frames dependent on number of doors). Man battening down all hatches on sinking ship etc Whoever the artist, take a tip from the bunny suicides.

But then humour is subjective .

You obviously have a similar level aptitude for advanced mathematics as myself then articles?

  • Turns out that this is not a one off but a very popular webcomic with a host of characters which has even featured in my paper, the Guardian, how did I miss it?

    I live and learn

Joe, you’re in good company, as for advanced mathematics, very nice in its place.
