The East Antrim results would appear to have put Sinn Fein in the front seat within nationalism to challenge for a new nationalist seat in the constituency. Oliver McMullan, whose campaign received a healthy helping hand from unionist representatives in Larne, pulled just over one thousand more first preference votes than his SDLP counterpart, Justin McCamphill- 2,369 votes to 1,333 votes. It looks likely that the rate of transfer from McCamphill will be decisive in showing whether or not McMullan can hold off a unionist candidate to claim the sixth seat.
