I coulda been somebody, instead of a bum

Newly elected Louth TD Gerry Adams has distributed his party baubles:

Mary-Lou is Deputy leader and Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform.

Aengus Ó Snodaigh is Spokesperson on Social Protection and Party Whip

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin is Spokesperson on Health and Children.

-he used to be Sinn Féin Dáil leader and party spokesperson on the Peace Process and the Six Counties and Health & Children.

That is some demotion!

  • Hope they thanked their benefactor properly, with a “thank you my lord Baron”, backing away and bowing and such.

  • Mick Fealty

A bit unfair on Caoimhghín Mark. The parliamentary party has almost tripled in size. Here’s the rest of the portfolios:

Pearse Doherty – Spokesperson on Finance

Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin – Spokesperson on Health and Children

Padraig MacLochlainn – Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Trade

Peadar Toibin – Spokesperson on Enterprise, Jobs and Innovation and An Gaeltacht

Jonathan O Brien – Spokesperson on Justice, Equality and Defence

Martin Ferris – Spokesperson on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources

Sean Crowe – Spokesperson on Education and skills

Brian Stanley – Spokesperson on Environment, Community and Local Government

Micheal Colreavy – Spokesperson on Agriculture, Food and Marine

Dessie Ellis – Spokesperson on Transport and Housing

Sandra McLellan – Spokesperson on Arts, Heritage, Tourism and Sport

  • lamhdearg

    no room for satire then.
i was big upping pearse, not playing him,
ps not get the jimmy young link, (lolly).

  • You seem to be suggesting the new TDs should sit on their holes and not share the load of opposition briefs, which would be a nonsensical approach for all manner of reasons (which I don’t have the patience to detail while finger typing on my phone).

  • fordprefect

As long as Adams is kept away from children’s issues! He doesn’t know what child abuse is, unless it smacks him in the face! Oh, hold on, it did! He completely “forgot” about his brothers’ carry on, and, when the heat was turned up (and an election looming), he blamed it all on his Da!

  • There’s infinite scope for snide remarks in this one, so let’s not spoil the party too much.

On the other hand, there are a couple of individuals of real potential in the new Dáil SF party, who will be features in future political history, long after Adams is merely a footnote.

Even I, in my prejudices, can see that.

  • You think Adams is going to be a “footnote” in Irish political history?

“Even I, in my prejudices, can see that.”

“Dessie Ellis – Spokesperson on Transport and Housing”

    Building or blowing up?
