Five men arrested in the Republic

Following the arrest of five men in Co Louth in the Republic Garda believe the have interrupted a provocative action on the southern side of the border. Two men were arrested in Dundalk, two elsewhere in Co Louth and one in Balbriggan.

There are reports that a vehicle was dumped which had been examined forensically .

The Garda press office will only confirm that five men have been arrested and they believe it is linked to dissident Republican activity.

  • I see the BBC is reporting that they have been arrested on explosives charges, and that shots were fired at the Guards. Lucky that no-one was killed sounds like, given the history there.

    That Balbriggan is indeed in County Dublin might well be excellent, Fitzjameshorse, but that that information is news comes as a surprise to me I must say. Were you a wee bit rusty on geography at school by any chance?

    The excellent news to which I made reference is that these men were arrested.
    I do indeed know that Balbriggan is in County Dublin……although clearly being in that God forsaken hole of a county is not something about which people in Balbriggan can be pleased.
