The visit of Zion Evrony, Israeli Ambassador to Ireland, to Carrickmacross has caused a minor diplomatic incident with Sinn Feíns Matt Carthy first calling a protest and then successfully pushing a motion through the Council which called for removal of the Ambassadors entry in the guest book.
This year Sinn Féin’s Ard Fheis will again debate a motion on Palestine. The motion would seem consistent with Sinn Féin’s previous positions on Palestine and Cllr Carthy’s pronouncement:
For Carrickmacross Town Council to be associated with this rogue government is an affront to the Palestinian people who, only one year ago, were the subject of an unrelenting aerial and ground attack by Israeli forces in their Operation Cast Lead.
Well consistent until May of last year when Ron Prosor, Israeli ambassabor to Britain, met with Gerry Adams and also Deputy First Minister McGuinness during a visit to launch NI Friends of Israel. Or was that page and the lack of protests around it ripped out of a book too?
