Top propaganda

I linked it earlier but this is tip-top propaganda with a soundtrack. Stand alone stuff (though they dropped any references to Dominic McGlinchey now he isn’t a member):

• iluvni

Join the resistance, they ask…then cry that the PSNI harrassed their sponsored walk.

• wee buns

Interesting choice of music.
Events are often more important in crystallizing people’s thoughts than is propaganda.

• KieranJ

Ireland unfree shall never be at peace.

• Keithbelfast

I shop is Tesco, but I know…deep down… it’s still Crazy Prices.

But I checked on youtube and there was no protest video. 🙁

• Keithbelfast

• Alias

That is good stuff.

éirígí are promoting a republican agenda by peaceful means, yet they are being harassed by the British police service. The end that éirígí are promoting is the termination of British sovereignty over the state, and its replacement by a sovereign, independent Irish nation-state.

That exposes an underlying reality behind the current process: that it is not just violent means to an end that other so-called republican groups have been led to renounce but the end itself.

If the British state intended to allow those who reject the legitimacy of its claim to sovereignty the right to argue their case by peaceful means then there would be no campaign of state harrassment against those who are arguing their case by peaceful means.

The British state harasses éirígí because they are promoting Irish sovereignty which challenges British sovereignty, and so it does not want republicanism to be promoted by any means. Having redefined ‘republicanism’ as a political dynamic that promoted the conversion of the Irish nation into a non-sovereign nation within a British state, it is not going to allow the hard work of its Security Services to be undermined by organisations such as éirígí inconveniently reminding the muppets of its actual definition.

Only organisations that fully endorse the legitimacy of British rule may apply to the British state assist in its administration.

• FitzjamesHorse

very amateur production.

• FitzjamesHorse

very amateur production from a very amateur political group.

• changeisneeded

that video is far from amateur..
believe me that is top shelf editing and it has a point………

what are you looking for
perfect lit and staged shots……

making yourself sound silly

• FitzjamesHorse

hmmm……is a person who takes eirigi seriously qualified to call me silly? Rhetorical question……but er…

• Cynic2

“Ireland unfree shall never be at peace” ….just like the Republic was after it obtained its freedom when those lusting for power turned on fellow Irish heroes and murdered them.

• Cynic2

“by peaceful means” …… by illegal parades that are policed and dealt with in exactly the same way as those by the dreaded OO. This equality things shocking isn’t it

• Cynic2

“Different Name, Same Aim”

I thought that since they got all those new baton guns the aim was much better

• Cynic2

Is that post part of your GCSE Politics essay?

I am afraid its a Grade C-

• I’m always suspicious when some piece of propaganda needs emotive music to sell its message rather than the visuals. This will go down a treat with yanks with some green in their veins and a misty-eyed vision of the emerald isle. For everyone else, it seems out of date and, frankly, pathetic. Trying to compare the actions of today’s PSNI with the B Specials is, frankly, bullshit and an insult to those who actually really suffered back in the day. eirigi would be better off dropping their self-pitying “victimhood” propaganda stunts and channelling their efforts to working with other nationalists to build a better future for everyone in NI and ROI.

• David Crookes

Oh, dear. What a dark-souled and ugly-minded piece of work.

If in 1950 these people had been granted a 32-county Ireland full of you-know-what-kind-of-cover-ups, they would have called it ‘Ireland free’.

And their music! The inevitable tired old rhodomontade from the Killer Wimps.

• the future is bright the future is orange

in fairness, I thought the video was pretty well done. No context whatsoever, but a nice bit of marketing. Erigi for a bafta? lol

• Scaramoosh

Top Propaganda.

Please. These guys are every intelligence services dream; a cluster of deviant dissidents; lending themselves to easy profiling.

As with the INLA and all of the so called Socialists, you cannot hope to reach out and embrace the “working class” if you are enmeshed in a nationalist straitjacket. It is a simple case of putting the cart before the horse, or, indeed,
failing to see the wood, for the trees.

• Henry94

If as éirígí claim nothing has changed from 1969 to 2010 then not only has the peace process changed nothing but neither did the armed struggle.

In fairness to them they have said that they don’t believe the conditions exist for armed struggle but one wonders if creating such conditions is part of the agenda.

If they accepted the fact that partition can never be solved by armed struggle I’d be happier to wish them well. Because there would be nothing wrong with a democratic anti-agreement alternative for nationalists.

• padraig

Of course its ’propaganda'.

Its Republican, isn’t it?

Now if it came from the Ministry of Defense…about say Afghanistan, well thats a Government Announcement, which is something quite different.

• Panic, these ones like it up em.

Could’nt the headline be just turned on these groups

Different Name, Same Aim.

It is very naive of people not to see through that these people also want to use the “Same old failed violent means”

Having said that I support the SDLPs assertion that 50-50 recruitment to the PSNI should be continued until it reflects the ratios in the general populace.

• FitzjamesHorse

On balance I support the continuation of 50-50 recruitment but I would hate to see a situation emerge as in the USA where a satirist can claim that
each police car should have a black
each police car should have a woman
each police car should have a hispanic
each police car should have a gay.

eventually the police car has no room for cops. We have ome a long way. The situation where we could assume a policeMAN (it was nearly always a man) was protestant and unionist has changed radically and I dont think we actually NEED a perfectly balanced reflection of society but as it annoys the right people we should go for it anyway.

I think we would all hate the situation where we had to assume that a police person in Crossmaglen was Catholic and a police person in Bushmills was Protestant.
But if we take an arbitrary figure for the purposes of discussion as say 35% Catholic, the changes would be massive.

A 35% Catholic and nationalist police service in say Omagh would be a big step forward for the nationalist community.
But a 35% Catholic and nationalist police service in say Newtownards would also be a big step forward.
It is the nature of Norn Iron that a step forward by one community is a step back for the other community.

We must of course observe the nicety of stating this is for the good of ALL. But lets be frank very few of us vote on the basis that we are doing the other lot a favour.

• riverlagan

This propaganda video only highlighted that the PSNI are a proficient and professional outfit 🙂

• DerTer

I can’t believe some of the comments on this thread. Any first year media studies student would have a field day taking this apart. It’s not even good enough to be a testing case study.

• padraig

Its a hard old life.

• west belfast

This video is clearly aimed at young men. Eirigi know that those of us who lived through the days of the RUC will not buy into this.

And to draw similarities between what happened at Francis Hughes’ funeral and a dozen fellas walking down Castle St is insulting.

It is a well put together video that may suck in some gullible young men but it is a completely misguided piece of work.
