The chattering classes

Just picking up on Sammy Wilson`s disregard for the local media in his recent opinion pieces on Unionist Unity and devolution of Policing & Justice!

“I don’t usually listen to local radio, watch TV or read local papers, but incarcerated with colleagues who are news junkies and with long periods when we were waiting for papers or meetings, I must have heard and read more local news coverage last week than I have in the previous six months.

What I heard left me bewildered and I often wondered was I at the same talks. “

  • FitzjamesHorse

Not often I agree with Mr Wilson.
But hes right…local journalists are legends in their own lunchtimes.

  • joeCanuck

One of the things he says is that “we never wanted the Prime Minister involved”. If so, why did Arlene say a few days before Brown and Cowen came that the talks required assistance from the two governments?
And why have we heard nothing from Arlene ( forget about wee J) in the past week or more? Is she still the Acting F.M. or not?

  • Banjaxed

‘Is she still the Acting F.M. or not?’
Was she ever, Joe – except for ‘optics’, that is? PR has been point man since Day One of the talks.

“I don’t usually listen to local radio, watch TV or read local papers”

Very sensible. Much better to listen to the national BBC radio stations and read the national UK papers. There is often too much ‘noise’ in the local media – whipping people up into a frenzy while ignoring bigger global issues.

Oh dear, Sammy’s just made a complete tool out of himself with Nolan.

  • Banjaxed

I couldn’t believe Wilson’s attitude on Nolan. Telling the listening public (aka electorate) that it’s none of their business what goes on in DUP meetings, attacking Nolan for raising issues which virtually everyone who rang up the show wanted to know about and going on a rant to slam the show despite claiming he never listened to it anyway. What a shambles! (Sam-bles?)

Either Sammy is up against the wall from his own dissidents or he’s knackered from staying up late. He didn’t half sound rattled.

On the other hand, it could simply be yet another unpleasant display of DUP hubris.

    Whatever, he totally blew it.

  • jtwo

When you get to Sammy’s position there are people paid to read the papers for you.

  • Banjaxed

It’s a pity then nobody read him the funnies this morning!

  • ardmaj55

Banjaxed [6] The DUP probably debated about who to send on Nolan show, and dismissed sending gregory on since they’ve lost enough voters already. The DUP don’t need to wait for election results to know they’re in the doghouse with their voters, they have private polling to help them with that. They must be in kamikaze mood these days, and we still haven’t got the story on wee jeffrey’s antics, because of injunctions.[they must be hoping they have better luck than John Terry].

  • Banjaxed

ArdM, I agree with you on the ‘Gregory problem’ but Sammy is friend and ally of Robbo. I’ll bet he was delegated to ‘just appear, say nathin’ and disappear’ just as Gerry Kelly successfully did before Sammy came on air. He blew everything.

    With friends like that….

  • ardmaj55

Banjaxed ‘with friends like that’ …. you can snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. if this deal as presented by PR goes through, SF will be the ones having trouble at t’mill with their base.
