PM goes home without a deal…

SDLP and the Alliance Party are waiting on the Ulster Unionist leader to arrive before going in to see the Prime Minister’s spokesman: who is all that’s left now since the PM’s flown home… What a shambles!!!

  • jtwo

He’s not quite away yet…but he ain’t hanging around. Soft landing anyone?

  • Mrazik

    Browned oft no doubt…

  • He’ll be sitting on the plane thinking “what a pointless waste of time that was, sitting in a room full of nitpicking pain-in-the-arses who are only doing this so that they can wring yet more money out of me.”

  • OscarTheGrouch

Ah but sure it was great craic…. sigh.

  • Jaggers

Time to spin failure is the result of unhelpful meddling by Owen Partisan, and that the Tory tie-up with UUP is putting selfish personal political ambitions before the peace process. Cue billboards of David Cameron with an Orange sash and bowler hat with the tag line “Same old Tories, same failed policies, UCUNFs”.

‘He’ll be sitting on the plane thinking “what a pointless waste of time that was, sitting in a room full of nitpicking pain-in-the-arses who are only doing this so that they can wring yet more money out of me.”’

Unlike the bould Reginald Maudling all those years ago who slumped down in his seat on the plane and demanded a large scotch whisky exclaiming to all within earshot ‘
‘what an awful bloody country ‘

    Plus ca change etc

  • I’m not sure that my imagining of Brown’s views are as close to a calculated offence towards The Most Oppressed People Ever as Maudling’s was Greenflag.

  • ding dong

Pathetic, crap, useless, bunch of a**seholes doesn’t even come close to a description of so called poliicians.

The Government should legislate for p&j and call an election. anyone who wants to exercise devolution say so, any others can tell us and those who want them can vote for them the rest of us can ignore them.

  • Driftwood

Dear old Reggie ‘acceptable level of violence’ Maudling. Wasn’t the great man punched by Bernadette in the Commons for that remark on the plane?

  • granni trixie

What i find unbelievable is that the DUP were not shouting from the rooftops that they had secured a realtively good financial package for P&J….surely making marching the dealbreaker is an own goal?.

  • Cynic2

“Time to spin failure is the result of unhelpful meddling by Owen Partisan,”

…. well he has to do everything he can to help Alistair get re-elected in South Belfast – that might be the only seat he holds after the election

  • Cynic2

And its funny that the Tories ‘meddle’ whereas Labour has done bugger all and let this drift for 3 years

  • iluvni

How much did this latest 3 day farce cost the public purse?

  • danielmoran

Paul Evans, msg 3. Incapability Brown on plane back to London, echoes Reggie Maudling on plane back to London from here in 1971.
To air hostess; “WHAT A BLOODY AWFUL COUNTRY. GET ME A DOUBLE SCOTCH”.

  • Greenflag

    Driftwood ,,

Reggie was ‘punched’ by Miss Devlin for other reasons i.e

Maudling’s statement in the House of Commons after Bloody Sunday agreed with the British army’s claim that the Parachute Regiment had only fired in self-defence, so inflamed the nationalist MP Bernadette Devlin, a witness to the events who was not called on to speak, that she punched him.

Like the good Tory he was he eventually resigned due to business scandals and drank himself to an early death -cirrhosis of the liver . I wonder how much NI contributed to his early demise at 61 . Another in a long list of those Tories who have come and gone and left the place worse off after than before . And now it’s time for another repeat 🙁

ho hum they’ll never learn will they ?

‘I’m not sure that my imagining of Brown’s views are as close to a calculated offence towards The Most Oppressed People Ever as Maudling’s was ‘

Maudling may have been an alcoholic and a Tory but one can sympathise with the man on his offensive comment . They all make comments like that . Maudling was just unlucky to have been overheard by the wrong/right people .

I’m amazed that Gordon Brown put up with the round 3 crap for three days . Can’t imagine Northern Ireland being worth it unless Brown has hopes of being helped into a slim victory in the coming election with the help of the DUP Westminster MP’s , plus lady Sylvia Hermon’s sole UUP seat plus non abstentionist SF MP’s .

Why not ? Unlikely of course but hey a week is a long time in politics as Mrs Robinson would confirm . How is the oul dear doing I wonder .?

  • scarecrow

As I read somewhere once, dying for Ireland at the GPO would be less painful than sitting around and listening to this lot’.

  • FitzjamesHorse

Hilarious stuff.. I am having a nice cup of tea and piece of apple pie to celebrate.

  • danielmoran

greenflag msg 16. How is the oul dear doing, I wonder? I wonder if the disappearance of wee Jeffrey has any connection with this, if Iris might be actually at home with wee Jeffrey locked in the store room, updating his autobiography to include his jumping not only the ship, but the shark.
