Sammy Wilson: Another economic convert to anti global warming lobby…

Sammy Wilson is now claiming moral victory over the Global Warming lobby (of which he was – until quite recently – a semi detached advocate) for the ‘Global Warmists’… A passionate, if recent convert. And yet the doubts around the scientific modeling have not changed that much in the last ten years… It’s more likely he read a book (An Appeal to Reason: A Cool Look at Global Warming) by a former Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer, and changed his mind…

I think Sammy explains his views pretty well in this short video.

  • Mick Fealty

He does. But he just doesn’t explain the radical switch from his contrary position just 18 months earlier.

I think it could be called an openness of mind that allows one to adjust one’s opinion when new facts or ideas are presented.

Or, are you, perhaps, suggesting some invidious reason?

  • 6countyprod

Or, maybe, earlier, he was only trying to keep Jim Wells off his back! Apparently, he’s quite the Warmist.

I’m suggesting it has little to do with science (which is nowhere near as unambiguous as the Minister claims), and much to do with economics (and more than a touch of populism).

  • iluvni

Maybe a few more of them ought to read that book.

Maybe Sammy shouldn’t be Environment Minister.
I think he probably wants the temperature to rise so he can sunbathe in N.I.

‘Maybe Sammy shouldn’t be Environment Minister.’

Where have you been hibernating, PUDabout?

  • PUDabout

Are you telling me they actually removed him and, incredibly, put him in charge of something else?
Just so long as he never gets his hand on Finances.

    You’re no dozer, PUDabout!

  • Sammy’s position is all to do with populism. He has calculated that his position is popular with the ‘man in the street’, his electorate. He is undoubtedly correct.

He has always been a populist, a strange combination of working class labourism with right wing rhetoric in a religiously fundamentalist party (used to be called Red Sammy in the eighties).

Add to that employing a Tory Boy researcher (who through a strange and tragic twist has become an MLA) who has probably read Scared to Death by Christopher Booker and Richard D North and watched the Great Global Warming Swindle on Channel 4 a couple of years ago.

I reckon that explains his conversion from climate Alarmism to Denial.

    Great Global Warming Swindle

Was indeed a swindle, 7 serious inaccuracies within it, hence the OFCOM investigation.

  • sammys self esteem

You would expect someone who refuses to accept that they are capable actually of electing their head of state to refuse to believe any action they take would have an impact on mitigating climate change. Perhaps we should club together and get Sammy some lessons to address his apparent self-esteem deficit?

Maybe this is why an increasing number of people, including politicians, are becoming global-warming sceptics. More massaging of the figures and hiding the decline: this time, Australia.
