Magners League

The Magners League – playground of the stars –is upon us once again. Compared to the competition – Blood and Drugs Magners seems to be in rude health.
This year, for the first time, there are play-offs, the top four compete for the title at seasom end. The Scotsman thinks it’s a good idea. Not quite as sure about the introduction of Italian teams next season:
“With so much going for the league the case for introducing two Italian teams next year is far from obvious. The move will ruin the “Celtic” nature of the league while adding substantial costs, and it has already proven a disaster for the Italian clubs who are not involved as sponsors abandon them without so much as an arrivederci. It’s a lose/lose situation, so savour the upcoming season, it may be the last ever truly Celtic League competition”

Who is going to win?
Munster or Cardiff Blues methinks.
Something’s wrong with the Ospreys – Jerry Collins a new signing but Gavin still not quite right. Shane an excellent binman however.
Ulster’s loss of Rory Best for the whole season is a bitter blow. Let’s see if Ferris manages to blossom – Wonderful player.
Scarlets? A dismal finish last year – a new stadium but not a lot of dosh. Stephen Jones critical to their recovery.
Leinster – Nathan Hines and Eoin Reddan two interesting signings – could be in with a shout if O’Driscoll decides it’s important.
Cardiff – chaos at new stadium They ain’t got a scoreboard! I’vw been there to watch the Soccer and Cardiff City seem to have the logistics right. Don’t drive there however. Good squad and should be thereabouts.
Munster? – Annual budget of £8m helps – Jean de Villiers a new signing – reigning champions and favourites.
The rest? Can’t see either Scottish team, the Dragons or Connacht doing much this year.
