ICC World Twenty20 Super8 – Ireland v New Zealand

With Dave unfortunately indisposed, it’s time for me to don my metaphorical whites and pad up for some live-ish cricket blogging. Yesterday’s match out of the way, at Trent Bridge today Ireland face New Zealand in their first Super8 game. They’ve won the toss and will bowl first. New Zealand are missing captain Vettori along with Ryder and Taylor, while Ireland seem to have left out Boyd Rankin and Jeremy Bray. BBC text coverage here. And, in the UK, Radio 5Live stream [RealPlayer]. Or the Cricinfo scoreboard. NZ 198 for 5 off 20 overs. Redmond lbw 63. Styris caught K O’Brien bowled McCallan 42. Guptill 45 not out from 32 balls, with 4 sixes. Convincing performance by New Zealand setting a daunting total for Ireland to chase. Final Ireland 115 all out off 16.4 overs. Wilson c Franklin b Styris 23. Botha run out 28. Cusack c BB McCullum b NL McCullum 20. Johnston run out 14. Ireland never seriously troubled the total set by a New Zealand side who sprinted out of the blocks from the start. Some sloppy fielding and running between the wickets didn’t help. Got to be questions about the squad selection too. Next up, Sri Lanka at Lords. Tomorrow. *gulp* Update Not tomorrow, Sunday 1.30pm. *gulp*
