An Conradh is an Toghchán

toghchán ag teacht agus tá Conradh na Gaeilge ag iarraidh orainn smaoineamh ar an Ghaeilge agus sinn ag caitheamh ár vótaí.

Is féidir na freagraí a thug na hiarrthóirí sa toghchán Eorpach a léamh anseo.

Tugaim an tacaíocht don chineál obair seo agus d’obair an Chonartha i gcoitinne. An tráth seo, mothaím go bhfuil cuid mhór Gaeil a bhfuil aithne agam orthu ag maíomh go bródúil go bhfuil siad chun vótaí s’acu a scriosadh.
Bíodh acu, tá an cheart sin acu ach níor athraigh vóta scríosta faic riamh i mo thuairim. Ar a laghad tá súil agam go luaifidh lucht scríosta vótaí leis n a polaiteoirí agus iad ag dul thart cad chuige a bhfuil seo ar bun acu.

B’fhearr liom dul bealach an Chonartha is an pholaitíocht a úsáid seachas neamhaird soineanta a dhéanamh air.

  • RG Cuan

An-obair déanta ag na leaids sa Chonradh ar an cheist seo – ba cheart dúinn é ar fad a choinneáil i gcuimhne agus an vóta a chaitheamh againn ar an mhí seo chugainn.

Chuir sé cineál iontas orm go raibh Libertas chomh mór sin ar son na Gaeilge agus nach greannmhar an rud é gur dhúirt Maginness go ndéanfaidh sé iarracht an teanga a úsáid (creidfidh mé é sin nuair a chluinim é!) agus go bhfuil Teach Yourself Irish ag Parsley?!

    Please translate.
I thought we were supposed to be in an era of inclusiveness. Or does that just work one way?

  • Gael gan Náire

    Eddie,

I appreciate your concern, but all the English posts on Slugger are not translated into Irish as you imply.

what a stupid answer from the Allliance Party

  • To be quite honest, I thought the Alliance Party answer was positive and honest: He says:
”I have stated in my manifesto, however, that I would
campaign for EU funding for Irish‐language publishing (particularly of material for use in schools) and broadcasting, as
a means to broaden accessibility (and appeal) to the language in Northern Ireland.”

Creidim go bhfuil easpa freagra an UUP agus DUP (agus eile) ina mhasla ní h-amháin do phobal na Gaeilge ach don choras daonláthach trí chéile. The UUP and DUP illustrate their contempt not alone for the Irish language community in NI (and elsewhere) but for the democratic process in general by their failure to answer to answer the reasonable questions posed by the Conradh. I suppose we can take it as read that they are opposed to the Irish language and to any measure which would support its use – but they were perfectly free to say as much in their answers. This copperfastens their own sectarian attitudes to the Irish language. Shame on them! Ba cheart go mbeadh náire orthu.

Molaim CnaG as an mbeartas seo um thoghcháin ach creidim gur cheart dóíbh iarracht a dhéanamh ocáid phoiblí a reachtáil an chéad uair eile – nuair a bheidh an olltoghchán ann – agus cuireadh a thabhairt do na ceannairí nó a gcuid ionadaithe teacht os comhair phobal na Gaeilge agus a gceisteanna a fhreagairt.

  • Agus SPLAT!! goes my previous support for Steven Agnew.

What a narrow little response. He seems to be reverting to type as a North Down Prod, and that is no way to get votes out there in the real world. His response is immature both personally and politically.

  • Dasilva

I’d say you’d find the majority down south, who had Peig inter alia stuffed down their gullets during the shambles of an Irish course for their Leaving Cert.

Would be just as hostile to Irish as any DUP member.

  • … Would be just as hostile to Irish as any DUP member.

Is not what the surveys show.

  • Gael gan Náire

    Dasilvia,

Why in a recent survey did 90%+ as highlighted on Slugger indicate in a recent survey that they were pro-Irish?

Survey after survey indicates people are not hostile to Irish.

The DUP hate the Irish language, frankly whatever issues people have with their leaving cert course does not compare.

  • Dasilva

Complete lip service. Ask anyone to give you more than ten words of Gealige and you’ll be lucky.

I’m a Free Stater and I remember the contempt in which we held Irish at being forced to learn it at school.

You crowd up North should take off your green tinted spectacles and get real to what’s happening in the rest of the island.

    An dtuigeann tú ? 🙂

  • Dasilva

Plus i’d love to see these surveys!

  • Babell Ya

According to the Shameless Irishman 90% are pro-Irish language yet the “DUP hate Irish”.

How does 10% get the DUP elected and make it the largest party in Northern Ireland? Or are these “surveys” a pile of poo?

  • Dasilva

Babell Ya how dare you impugn these sacred surveys!

They were rigorously taken during closing time at various shebeens on the Falls Road.

What more objectivity could you look for!?

  • Bill

Please don’t take a hissy fit at me, and i’m not asking this for the benefit of ‘equality’ or ‘inclusion’ or anything else, but would someone mind translating this into English? Or even just summarising it in a few sentences?

If it’s not relevant to me then I guess don’t bother but I would like to know what you are writing about so that I may offer an input.

  • Babell Ya, Dasilva,

The surveys relate to the south, of course. That was, after all, what you were referring to, Dasilva: “I’d say you’d find the majority down south …

  • Gael gan Náire

    Da Silva,

The research people are refering to was published in the last two months and refers exclusively to the 26 Counties, carried out by the University of Ireland, Maynooth.

I am sure it is online somewhere though I can’t recall where.

  • Eddie

    LOOK!
All I am asking for is for a translation of the post and the first comment.
I am all for the preservation of the Irish language, but I don’t have any Irish.
Now, can you please be courteous enough to tell me what was being said?
    Thank you

  • RG Cuan

Eddie, click on the link and you will find out.

Cad é mar a tháinig na Béarlóirí seo ar fad isteach?!

Tá díomá orm féin faoi Agnew, sheol mé rphost chucu tamall ó shin ag iarraidh fáil amach cad é an seasamh a bhí ag na Glasaigh ó thuaidh i leith na Gaeilge agus níor thug siad freagra ar bith orm. Bhí mé ag smaoineamh faoi vóta a thabhairt dó síos an líne ach níl mé cinnte anois.

  • Gael gan Náire

    RG,

Maith thú as an cheist a ardú, tá sé sin thar a bheith tábhachtach.

“Cad é mar a tháinig na Béarlóirí seo ar fad isteach?!”

    Plandáil Uladh.

Tá aithne agam ar roinnt Glasaigh a bhfuil Gaeilge acu agus a bhí baúil di, ach ag an am ceanna dubh i gcoinne rud ar bith a dhéanfadh maitheas di ar eagla go gcuirfeadh sí isteach ar dhuine.

  • Bill

So now I have some understanding of this, how were the Unionist parties contacted? I’m wondering why they don’t appear to have had the decency to reply at all.

And were TUV not included because they don’t appear to be mentioned?

  • Plandáil Uladh.

LOL … ach tháinig mo mhuintir féin isteach ag an am seo freisin.

Faoi Agnew, tá an-díoma ormsa. Tá mé i mo ghlas, ach tá an teanga an-tábhachtach dom freisin. Anois sílim go bhfuil sé aontachtach beag …

  • Gael gan Náire

    Horseman,

Ní dhéanaim greann chomh maith sin!

Tá ábhair eile ann seachas an Ghaeilg, AR nDÓIGH!

Ach, silím gurb é sin an áit is maith liom toiseacht.

Nuair a deir polaiteoirí liom ar leac mo bhotháin, ‘Éist, tá rudaí eile ann’

Deirimse, seadh, agus pléifidh muid iad nuair a bheas mé cinnte dearfa nach bhfuil tú frithGhaelach.

  • RG Cuan

    Ceann maith GGN!

Horseman, mar Ghlasach, an féidir leat tionchar ar bith a imirt ar chúrsaí teanga sa pháirtí? Ó dheas tá na Glasaigh measartha maith ó thaobh na Gaeilge de ach is mór an trua é faoin Agnew seo…

Go fírinneach bhí mé ag iarraidh vóta éigin a thabhairt dó ach, mar a dúirt tú féin, tá sé i diaidh a léiriú go bhfuil sé diúltach go leor faoin Ghaeilge, agus ní thig liom tacú le boc mar sin.

  • RG Cuan,

Níl mé glasach (bhuel, níl mé ball don phairtí). Tá mé glas im saol féin, ach gaelach maidir le phoilitiocht.

Téigh mo bhóta do pháirti náisiúnach.

  • Gael gan Náire

    RG,

Seo an rud, caithfear smaoineamh ar an duine seachas ar an pháirtí agus sinne ag smaoinemh fán polaitíocht agus ár nGaeilge.

Smaoinigh ar an SDLP, an uair deireannach. Tá Martin Morgan dubh i gcoinne na Gaeilge. Ach thug go leor Gaeil dilse vóta dó de bhrí gur SDLPach a bhí ann.

Níl gach Sinn Féineach ar son na Gaeilge ná baol air, caithfear an scéal a fhiosrú.

Sin an neart le taighde an Chonartha (an t-aon eagraíocht Gaeilge arbh fhéidir le duine a bheith ina mball ann).

Ba chóir do Ghaeil níos mó taighde mar seo a dhéanamh, samhlaigh ag vótáil do dhuine éigin agus ansin faigheann tú amach go bhfuil sé/sí in éadan an Ghaelscolaíocht. Scrios Allá air sin.

    🙂

  • RG Cuan

Maith thú SM, deas a fheiceáil go bhfuil cuid de na haontachtaigh ag déanamh iarrachta!

Nice to see some unionists are making an effort!
