BBC NI and Radio Ulster: big changes ahead…

TODAY is the last time in many years that Inside Politics will be broadcast on Radio Ulster on a Saturday, writes presenter Mark Devenport (pictured). His guests at 12.45pm are two Euro-candidate barristers; TUV leader Jim Allister and the SDLP’s Alban Maginness. From April 5, it’s on Sundays after the 1pm news, and 10 mins longer. Instead, ex-UTV chat show king Gerry Kelly is going to be broadcasting on a Saturday from April 4 on Radio Ulster. Popular fellow, but irrelevant to me. From memory, my favourite grumpy old git David Dunseith is going to be moved from Talkback to Seven Days on a Sunday, to be replaced by Wendy Austin (who I can’t listen to – though she has her fans). And I think Mark Carruthers is getting shifted off Let’s Talk, IIRC. Dunno what’s happening with Conor Bradford, old chep, or indeed housewives’ favourite Will Crawley. I’d take William on the radio over Wendy any day. Which sounds kind of filthy when I read it back.

We are reader supported. Donate to keep Slugger lit!

For over 20 years, Slugger has been an independent place for debate and new ideas. We have published over 40,000 posts and over one and a half million comments on the site. Each month we have over 70,000 readers. All this we have accomplished with only volunteers we have never had any paid staff.

Slugger does not receive any funding, and we respect our readers, so we will never run intrusive ads or sponsored posts. Instead, we are reader-supported. Help us keep Slugger independent by becoming a friend of Slugger. While we run a tight ship and no one gets paid to write, we need money to help us cover our costs.
