Ulster Conservatives and Unionists

So Ulster it is… It looks like there is finally approval to end the 104 year history of the Ulster Unionist Party (which until recent rule changes wasn’t an actual party) to something that, er, isn’t an actual party…

  • “here is finally approval to end the 104 year history of the Ulster Unionist Party”

There is nothing of the sort Mick. Very scurrilous. That’s hardly the way to promote yourself as a possible candidate! 😉

This is great news now the Conservatives and Unionists can now get on with the real task – defeating the anti UK DUP

    “Ulster Conservatives and Unionists”

Just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it? Still at least the word party isn’t in there after all: ” a group of persons with common political opinions and purposes” hardly defines this motley crew of hooray henry’s, lefties and liberals.

  • “this motley crew of hooray henry’s, lefties and liberals.”

    Beyond satire.

  • will the rebranding be finalised for the euros?

  • ??

unless they are registered as a single party surely they cant use this on the ballot papers, it will either be UUP or Conservatives.

  • Ulster Conservatives and Unionists or Ulster Unionists for short.

“to end the 104 year history of the Ulster Unionist Party”

Sorry, just plain wrong. The Ulster Unionist Party will not be going anywhere.

    Freudian slip? 😉

to abc message 4…. i suppose it’ only a matter of time till they follow the derry example and call it the ‘unionist-conservativeunionist party. either way this lot will find if cameron gets into office, he’ll find other fish to fry and reg empty will be looking at a revisit to square one.

  • Why don’t they just call it the Con U party?

  • Ho ho ho

    Presumably “Alliance Rite” was taken?

    any word from sylvia yet?

DUP supporters such as ??, ABC, and Fair Deal panicking already at the thought of the new group even before it exists. They just can’t keep away from the topic.

If the new group is formed what will they do then?

Maybe they will join a group who really believe in the United Kingdom.

LOL. So the ‘panic obsession’ line is actually a variation of the internal party business/butt out line.

“Maybe they will join a group who really believe in the United Kingdom.”

So the new alliance has a monopoly on belief in the Union and UK? I thought that sort of old-style UUP thinking had faded and even more so with the new UUPCon pact developing. Instead it appears to be breathing new life into it.

IIRC Annabel Goldie delivered a nice line in a recent speech about how the concept of the Union goes beyond the party political, perhaps the Conservatives would be so kind as to provide the UUP with a copy.

  • ?!

The UUP Officers are jumping ship in Lagan Valley i hear so maybe they want the UUP to go somewhere and not nowhere as Michael suggests.

I always thought a FF/SDLP or Con/UUP link up would be bad for the other parties and I still do, I think a Labour/UUP hookup would have been more damaging to the DUP, however I still think the current situation could draw back past supporters. As a republican looking in on unionism, Empey always strikes me as a more mainstream/less local politican than any on the DUP side.
And just to do an IPJ, the UUP were a lot harder to work with when Trimble was inpower, maybe having the DUP snarling in the background drove their agenda a bit or maybe SF actually neg beter in St Andrews than peoplegive credit for. Although speaking of IPJ its good that he’s cleaned himself up abit, I think Williams repeated descriptions of Mary McAleese (lank, greasy hair, etc) matched IPJ’s previous appearance (minus the dowdy drss of course…I think)

Mick – please take note – every time the (“vile” to quote Lord Randolph) Ulster Tories say something, you don’t need to big it up on here!
