Shortest [unelected] term for SF councillor?

Having noted [Lisburn City Council] Sinn Féin Councillor Sam Baker’s [still no relation] criticism of the principal of St Colm’s High School, Twinbrook, in September last year, I feel obliged to also note this Irish News story today. [subs req]

Councillor Sam Baker was co-opted onto the seat in October 2006 following the sudden death of party colleague and west Belfast assembly member Michael Ferguson. The unopposed move meant a by-election was avoided. However, just over two years later, Mr Baker has resigned his seat without ever going before the electorate. Sinn Féin representative for the Colin area Arder Carson is the new candidate and is hoping to be co-opted on tonight. Mr Baker is to take up a new role within the party as ‘political organiser’ at Belfast City Council.
