And Robin makes three..

It looks like the rumours doing the rounds that no one but our councillor of the year Deirdre Nelson had put their hat into the ring was based more on lack of information, rather than any knowledge of affairs inside the DUP… Robin Newton has had his name in for some time. That gives us three named candidates: (Nelson; Newton; and Diane Dodds)… Nor, as Slugger understands it, is the party leaving it particularly late compared to last time. There were just four candidates back in 2004 and the selection meeting was held on 25th February 2005. So, in fact, they’re getting to it a few weeks early this year…

Yes indeed. So much for the pathetic bleating of the UUP on here about delays and lack of candidates.

The DUP actually has a range of good people to choose from, not the same useless old duffer, who was only selected because he lost his Westminster seat and whose vote has fallen in every election since 1994, but who because he is now miraculously transformed into “Tory-man” is suddenly going to surge in popular support. Yeah, right!

    Election? Bring it on!

    autocue,

Please note: the campaign hasn’t started yet. So try and keep it civil.

Sorry Mick, I don’t see you calling for civility when the Tory/UUP trolls on here hurl abuse at others.

Is it fact or not that Nicholson was only selected in 89 because he lost Newry and Armagh in 87?

Is it fact that in every election since 1994 his vote has been declining?

Is it fact that Jim Nicholson was the sole UUP person to put their name forward for selection?

“Is it fact or not that Nicholson was only selected in 89 because he lost Newry and Armagh in 87?”

No its not. It was in 1986, but you get my drift! LOL!

could do without the age reference though. Especially from someone whose party was ‘led’ by an octogenarian for some time.

  • jonesy85

There are noises being made that there could be up to 7 names in. Id heard rumours that Poots may have been asked, or even some of the ‘young guns’, who have impressed over the past year, like Hamilton or Ross may have been asked to stand.

Unlikely that anyone could beat Diane Dodds i would have thought. She has a good name recognition and would have a strong appeal to all unionists. Doubt the party would risk a lesser profile candidate at this stage, even if they have the intellectual capacity for the job,

“useless old duffer” referred to performance rather than age. But then at least he serves on the Tuck Shop Committee of the European Parliament!
