Live blogging the inauguration later…

We’ll be running another of our live blogs (the first of two this week; SDLP conference is on Saturday) for the inauguration of Barak Obama today. Despite some tech difficulties we had a great one on election day in November with a great team of live bloggers based in the States drafted onto the team for the day. If you want to be on the team, then {encode=”mick.fealty@gmail.com” title=”drop me a line”}. If you’re on the ground and Twittering send me a direct message at twitter.com/MickFealty; and likewise we’ll co-opt your tweets into the Slugger Live blog.

I’m on leave all this week, so i’ll be chillaxing at home with the feet up, watching it. I’ll bore y’all with my thoughts here.

I’d just like to be first on this thread to say thanks to George W Bush, Dick Cheney, Uncle Don and the rest of the gang. Not exactly a spectacularly successful presidency, but you can bet that it will be looked on as a golden age within a few years.

so long and thanks for all the fish

I think the question on everybody’s lips is: can teh presidential inauguration match the glitz & glamour of Saturday’s SDLP conference? Obama’s good but he’s no Durkan …

  • … the inauguration of Barak Obama …

    Barack, Mick. Not ‘Barak’.

‘I think the question on everybody’s lips is: can teh presidential inauguration match the glitz & glamour of Saturday’s SDLP conference? ‘

Dev, probably not. But there is always the audacity of hope

  • Harry Flashman

Mick, I don’t wish to appear rude but what precisely do you want us to blog about?

“Oh look he’s about to recite the oath of office, wow.”

“A warm black coat and a sensible suit, a smartly picked conservative pattern tie, well chosen that man”

“And look thousands of people standing around watching him, amazing”

“Here comes the ‘Star Spangled Banner” sung no doubt by a well known female black gospel singer, just like all the other presidential inaugurations for the past quarter century, radical eh?”

It’s just an inauguration, not the second coming of Jesus Christ.

(Party pooper Harry Flashman, grouchily slumps off to the corner.)

there’s always Frankie Boyle’s recent comment Harry-
“And when Obama got up to speak there was bullet proof glass all around him
That just shows how America’s still a racist country. I mean, black people don’t shoot everybody round them any more”

  • Greenflag

‘I mean, black people don’t shoot everybody round them any more” ‘

They don’t . Serial killers are predominantly if not exclusively ‘white ‘ with a trend towards ‘southernness ‘. Blacks tend to shoot each other more so than whites shoot each other and the yellows don’t do very much shooting at all at all .Makes one wonder what’s wrong with them eh ?

My thoughts entirely, Harry. Mick seems to have a childish delight in the curious silliness that is Twittering. I mean, surely the name gives it away? It’s clearly designed for pre-pubescents who cannot string tiogether more than a dozen words, and who think that silly little ‘tweets’ (holy god!) are words of wisdom.

Newsflash, Mick: Nothing is really going to happen tomorrow that requires minute-by-minute coverage. We know how it ends, and all the ceremonial nonsense is simply that – nonsense.

‘Obamas attend pre-inaugural service at St. Johns’s Episcopal Church. Barack and Michelle Obama waved to bystanders, then entered the church to applause from about 200 people. The choir and congregation began singing the hymn, “O God Our Help in Ages Past.”‘

    Huw Edwards….not a good start.

  • RepublicanStones

Actually i take that back…it could have been Gary Lineker.
