“Perdido ROV Visitor, What Is It?”

Magnapinna

A different sort of extra-curricular post tonight, rather than looking to the skies this one involves looking into the ocean depths.. a mile and a half down in the Gulf of Mexico, where there still be monsters.. Like this giant elbowed squid, the rarely-seen Magnapinna. This is a still from a short video clip on the National Geographic website, as noted by the Professor.

, , , ,

  • Rory

Looks suspiciously like a Catholic squid to me, which given its location proximate to Latin America is not unexpected.

  • Ulsters my homeland

looks nothing like a Catholic squid, anyhow they don’t like tap [holy] water.

an elbowed squid?? are we looking at a deformed one?

  • joeCanuck

Good Jupiter, Mars, moon alignment this weekend.

  • joeCanuck

Make that Jupiter, Venus and the moon.

  • Greenflag

    JC ,

‘Make that Jupiter, ( God of Joy) Venus (Goddess of Love ) and the Moon (Harbinger of Lunacy )’

Just what we all need. An outbreak of joviality and cosmic love rounded off with a dash of lunacy so we can put into religious and political perspective the horrors in Mumbai, Zimbabwe , the Congo mid week .

Jehovah , Vishnu and Allah must have taken their eyes off the third rock orbiting a remote middle sized star at the edge of the Milky Way galaxy this week . Probably too engrossed in worrying about the property values of their places of worship and the short term outlook for real estate investment trusts 🙁

‘Looks suspiciously like a Catholic squid to me, which given its location proximate to Latin America is not unexpected.’

    it’s definitely a Protestant squid.

    Just check the description.

Eyes large, Head short without distinct neck or brachial pillar.

Catholic Squids eyes are closer together and have a less distinctive neck.

  • LURIG

Given the rarity of cod and other species of fish it’ll probably be battered, deep fried and on the menu in our chippies soon enough, with NEW potatoes of course.

  • joeCanuck

You can’t make good chips with new potatoes. Everyone’s ma knows that.

  • pauljames

Come on guys dont you recognise the alien from Independence Day?

  • percy

joe have you got astroclock 3.5 ?

  • joeCanuck

No, Percy, I don’t. Do you recommend it?

  • percy

its great joe, have it in the start-up, small memory usage. Its free for windows.

    also check this mate:
    http://www.plasmacosmology.net/

Its all about Electricity , not Gravity.

Them blackholes, dark matter, dark energy, its all baloney.

    psst. Don’t tell peteb 😉

  • joeCanuck

Yes, Percy. I followed your previous link to the Electricity/Gravity and found it most intriguing. I’ve never believed in the Big Bang theory. Just doesn’t seem plausible but there are still a few cosmologists trying to understand what might be the “truth”. Myself, I believe it’s unknowable. The only thing I (we?) can be sure of is that it’s definitely not some bearded chap up in the heavens.

  • percy

    joe,
one of the telling facts is that the movement for the new physics (electric universe model), have been forbidden to use the major-telescopes.

Same crap happened with Galileo, heresy etc.
something normally peteb would pick up on and cause him to scratch his head.
Not this time though. strange indeed.

I can’t share your belief that its unknowable, because that in itself is a form of dogma 😉

Lets pursue the subject with an open mind.

  • Greenflag

We know more about the surface of the Moon and Mars than we do about the bottom of the oceans .

So instead of finding ‘aliens’ in space we find them here on Earth 😉

But they are not that ‘alien’ . We are related to such creatures from about 500 million years ago .

All life is one as the man said and the biologists , scientists , and anthropologists all agree . The same chemico/biological processes take place in bananas , ecoli , and chimpanzees as take place in Willie Fraser, Martin McGuiness , and Queen Elizabeth II.

Magnapinna seems to have adapted to it’s environment to a remarkable degree – unlike it’s long removed surface relations many of whom are are having a tough time adapting to the strange new world of mandatory power sharing. But then we have changed our economic and political environments so often that ‘adaptation’ doesn’t get a chance to adapt fully before the next major change takes place .

The question is have we control over our environment or is it the other way around. We change the environment and then the environment changes us . More to the point what sort of strange ‘adaptations ‘ will be given ‘birth ‘ to by this new political and economic era ? With communism dead , capitalism in crisis and the earth’s environment under threat , with rapturers preaching end times , and Islamic nutters reinstalling Allah Akbar – what is/if anybody doin about all of this ;)?

We’ll have to find a scapegoat somewhere to blame all this shit on 🙁

That thing’s uglier than Arsene Wenger’s matchday coat.

  • Baz está fresco em Vermont

Is Sigourney Weaver in this one?
