Oh dear Iris…

Time for another award… This time the Stonewall Bigot of the Year… and it goes to Iris Robinson MP… (Just keep it civil in the comment zone!)

, ,

• joeCanuck

What a wonderful world and such a delightful woman.
Would speculating whether she has ever taken it in the *** be considered uncivil?
Depends on your background (no pun intended) I suppose.

• wild turkey

some say to spit it out or swallow,
is a question more profound than politics;
left or right.

but why debate, profound or shallow,
when politicians open their mouths
and out comes shite.

• ben

Robinson is just being true to her principles, and those of the people who vote for her and support her party and like-minded parties. All the Unionist parties, whether “Democratic” or “Independent” or “Traditional” have broadly similar policies and principles.

Do they have policies about, say, science education? Broadband provision? Combating poverty? Sheltering the cold and feeding the hungry? Not interested, sorry, we’re busy typing up our thesis for Bob Jones “University”. You’ll be amazed, I know, but its cutting-edge findings that gays are evil and papists are worse.

That’s all Unionism is and all it’s ever been: intransigent, hateful culture wars without end, an aggressive celebration of ignorance and servile credulity, non-stop assaults on any minority of any sort that comes to hand, and calling the result good, right, Godly and British.

• Is Ulster Unionism the unacceptable face of Britishness.

• William

Stonewall and other Homopromo groups should realise that ‘Free Speech’ and opinion is something that is cherished within the United Kingdom….to label someone a ‘bigot’ because of a deeply held religious belief is nothing to be proud of.

Were I a public representative, I would not have said what Iris Robinson said. However, the behaviour of gays and their supporters on so-called ‘Gay Pride’ days is nothing short of a shameless and a sickening spectacle and in my opinion does more harm to their supposed cause than anything Iris Robinson said.

I’m sure she’ll treat the award by this group with the contempt it so obviously deserves.

• ciaran

In fairness william you see the same sort of behaviour on a friday or saturday night from straight couples.

• Neil

You’re a dying breed William. It’s only a matter of time before the good gay and straight folks that party their way through belfast every year at Gay pride will have their hands on the tiller of this benighted country. Thank God.

On Iris, she’s a sideshow. In a few years only those people she insulted will remember her, and not in a good way. I still like to believe that you get out what you put in, what goes around comes around etc. It usually does.

• Ben

Ben….

Perhaps you can tell me what Republicanism is then……considering they murdered almost over 2000 people?

• William

I wonder what ‘dying breed’ I am…I’m a good living person whose work as a Senior community worker over many years has helped people of every type…so you don’t know me….and your assertion that those who party their way through Belfast on Gay Pride day will take over. What nonsense…what utter tripe….and then you thank God….perhaps you should read HIS WORD rather than thank Him.

As to ‘getting out what you put in’ —- a poor choice of phrasing there….no, often you don’t….sometimes it’s affected, hence the Aids epidemic.

• Neil

You’re a dinosaur big son. As for reading his word, I’m going to assume you’re referring to the bible – a book which neither God nor Jesus had any part in producing – a book which is open to interpretation.

You for example would not consider it a sin to wear mixed weave fabric? Nor I assume do you forsee any circumstances in which it would be ok for you to put your own son to death? However the bible says different.

You and your friends from church decide which rules to follow and which ones not to. You are hypocrites and you are on your way out. The opinion among educated young people is predominantly that homosexuality is no-one’s business bar those who are homosexual. And we will take over William, young educated folks. Hard a pill as that is for you to swallow.

I also happen to know quite a few repressed homosexuals who spout the same kind of homophobic shite as your good self, then at the week end get dow to the Kremlin and go hunting for a bit of cock.

I recall a certain gospel singing DUP man of years gone by who was compromised while recieving a massage in a Belfast hotel (booked by DUP man under a false name), from a man with whom he initiated contact on a gay chatroom. All this leads me to believe William, what would put you right is a bit of man love, maybe it’s not a bitter pill you need to swallow at all!

• Greagoir O’ Frainclin

“However, the behaviour of gays and their supporters on so-called ‘Gay Pride’ days is nothing short of a shameless and a sickening spectacle and in my opinion does more harm to their supposed cause than anything Iris Robinson said.”

– Why do you say that William, have you attended many Gay Pride events yourself so you have first hand experience?

• Ann

Aww c’mon Mick, the stonewall awards? Hardly a neutral award giver? It was a foregone conclusion she’d win first prize from them lol….

*shakes head*

• fin

“nothing short of a shameless and a sickening spectacle”
its not a particularily homophobic thing to say, however, Iris Robinson went way beyond this attitude and I think William your believes are probably quite close to Iris’s.
Not necessarily directed at William, but I find it gobstopping that Godfearing folk can happily support the taking of live in either war or terrorism, yet feel that gay people are damned. I really think God has a totally different perspective.

• edward

Ann

Who is a neutral award giver? Surely the choice to give awards is entirely subjective?

• Sam Graham

Who cares about the pink fascists of Stonewall?

Thankfully, these perverts will not take over the world as they will be outbreeded by the rising tide of our friends from the East who have a very narrow view of their behaviour. Stonewall may be thankful for Iris in 20 years – better than having you head chopped off in City Hall!!

Ironically, the etymology of the term “bigot” refers to the character of the Protestant marytrs who stood my God’s grace against superstition – i am sure Iris would be happy to identify with them!

I have some new awards – “Pervert of the Year” – hard to choose maybe Peter Tatchell and “murderer of the year” maybe Marty or the Bearded One.

• Ann

Surely the choice to give awards is entirely subjective?

Were the slugger awards subjective then?

• Why am I still a UUP voter?

If the DUP took a poll of its members and they pronounced Stonewall, ‘Britain’s most self-righteous bunch of nancy-boys’, I’d like to hope we would see *that* for the puerile name-calling the subject of this thread also is.

Iris is entitled to dislike homosexuality: gay and straight are entitled to disagree with her. Calling her a ‘bigot’ simply because she disagrees with you merely illuminates your mentality rather more tellingly than it does anything else. It certainly, for one, doesn’t make any sort of case for the argument you Irisphobes claim to be concerned to advance.

YES!! so are the Nobel Prizes and the Oscars, unless every one wins the award the choice of who to award it to is entirely subjective

Sam Graham

Ironically, the etymology of the term “bigot” refers to the character of the Protestant marytrs who stood my God’s grace against superstition

So they stood by superstition against superstition? Remarkable feet that or oxymoronical

The racist bits I will just ignore and make assumptions about your inteligence and education

“You’re a dying breed William.

Posted by Neil”

I suppose gays and lesbians are going to become the ultimate breeding machines for the next century?

• Neil

I suppose you think yourself typical of public popular opinion UMH? Wise yourself up. The majority of straight people don’t care about other people’s sexuality, why would they? It’s only the sexually fixated repressed homosexuals of the christian church who get hot under the collar.

• Ulsters my homeland

Neil, if you would take the time to understand Williams post in stead of trying to undermine him by calling his a ‘dying breed’, you will find he wouldn’t have said what Iris said if he were a public representative and that he also is against anyone calling her a bigot because of her views. Yet you have ignored that part of his post and tried to make him out as some type of ‘bigot’.

He further claimed he found the behaviour of those on the gay parade ‘shameless and a sickening spectacle’, and so do most people in N.Ireland society. You have failed to address that part of his post and have tried to make him out as some type of homophobic nutcase.

“It’s only the sexually fixated repressed homosexuals of the christian church who get hot under the collar.”

Neil, you’re the one who needs to wise up.

• Greagoir O’ Frainclin

“He further claimed he found the behaviour of those on the gay parade ‘shameless and a sickening spectacle’, and so do most people in N.Ireland society.”

Jaypers, how do all you folk know what goes on at gay parades? You all seem to have such insight.

• Ulsters my homeland

never been at one myself Greagoir, seen them on telly and there’s no way the behaviour and dress of these people is suitable for viewing, especially not for children. By all means, let them have theri day but is there any need for all the S&M;dress and flaunting of privot parts in the city centre?

• Paul McMahon

”It’s only the sexually fixated repressed homosexuals of the christian church who get hot under the collar…

Neil, you’re the one who needs to wise up”

UMH, I’m a straight, hetrosexual man who, as an accident of birth, was born into the Catholic religion. I also happen to think that someones sexual preference is absolutely none of my business.

Do I need to wise up too?

• Ann

YES!! so are the Nobel Prizes and the Oscars, unless every one wins the award the choice of who to award it to is entirely subjective

Nothing to do with merit?

That would depend on whether you subscribe to Neil’s view that ”It’s only the sexually fixated repressed homosexuals of the christian church who get hot under the collar.” My question was directed to this issue, in case you missed that.

• Paul McMahon

“It’s only the sexually fixated repressed homosexuals of the christian church who get hot under the collar.”

Don’t completely agree with Neil’s view in the sense that I find that it’s not just sexually repressed Christians but the sexually repressed of All religions. Surely Neil’s point has some merit?

Christians, [and others], will say how they find the act repulsive yet have nothing but love for the person. My question is HOW and WHY they first started thinking about the intricacies of the act in the first place?

An aside to this is how fundis will urge homosexual people to become “cured” lest they risk eternal damnation in the flames of hell yet are the first to eagerly dispatch the criminal, with his soul blackened by multitudes of nefarious activities, to the horned one asap.

• Rory

“I must say”, said the populist right-wing politician, “that the practice of homosexuality leaves a bad taste in my mouth.”

“Ooh! You too, dear? I know just what you mean”, said his friend.

• William

When the gays, both male and female take over, we will all be a dying breed, as with procreation, the human race will eventually die out….don’t you agree Neil and the other guy with the strange Oirsh name.

• William

Apologies: above post should read: ‘…without procreation…’

• edward

Posted by Ann

The merit part is where the subjectivity occurs, what merits one film as best picture over another? The voters or judges subjectively view the films and pass judgement over them

A sports game might be said to settled on merits as the sore provided a judgement free way of assigning merit but prizes would be rewards not awards

UNINTED IRONY
Re rorys post on bad taste its actulaly a quote from hansard.A tory objecting to the bill which legalised homosexulaty in the sixties.
The member beside him tipped him off on the conotation that could be put on the remark and he did not intervien for the rest of the debate.

I was happy to see Julie Bindel get nominated by Stonewall, because, I quite like her,

surgery is an attempt to keep gender stereotypes intact and we can’t have that can we?

On the other hand, the exploding plastic inevitability of it all, still had a bunch of Queens rioting and Stonewall having that provenance.

So Iris Robinson, how was she different to Julie Bindel, that’s the question that Mick has failed to highlight because, well just because

‘Campaigner Ros Kaveney said:

“Ms Bindel is advocating talking therapies for trans people in a way that almost entirely parallels the advocacy of talking therapies by the Christian right as a way of extirpating all LGBT people.’

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-9516.html

I think maybe, feminism, as an ideology without guns, frequently a mistake, takes itself seriously enough, to have developed a heap of positions, and once you have it, you have to apply it

‘”Surgery is an attempt to keep gender stereotypes intact. The diagnosis of childhood GID (gender identity disorder) follows old-fashioned notions of what constitutes appropriate behaviour for those assigned to the sex classes of male and female.’

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/news/articles/2005-9516.html

It is a perspective.

• Tazia Doll

Gay Pride 08 was a bit of a prob because of attacks on Cardinal Pujats, acts of public indecency, the CCTV going missing and an under-age sex campaigner being brought over by Amnesty,

I also don’t think Peter Tatchell, who has been condemned by gay groups all over the world, accepts the genetic cause of gayness.

The problem with campaigning for an acronym, with diverging components, is that it will tend to go pear-shaped.

The other thing was the Seattle, Las Vegas, San Diego, FBI stuff, we just don’t need porn merchants from San Diego coming here, because of the bribery stuff if not anything else.

I warned The Lord Mayor’s Office to keep its nose clean. We’ve already had porn lords ( from San Diego) courtesy the Brit sppoks.

Gay Prides should not have underage sex campaigners, for reasons Stonewall has often explained.

San Diego and San Francisco is a mistake, we just can’t do that here.

Peter Tatchell was also at San Diego this year. Look for trouble and then say ‘Where’s Peter’.

My own view is that the FBI should go to town on San Diego. Finish off what they started, do the rest of them.

The DUP has traditionally been seen primarily as a solely anti-Catholic party. Not anymore. Iris Robinson is to be commended for broadening its hatreds to include other groups in society.

• Rory

Thank you, Noel Adams, for your convincing argument that my earlier contribution could not possibly have been original.

I have been doing my best to all day to persuade Herself of the same as she demands to know, over and over again, ” And how is it that you know about this kind of thing?”

I was wondering, might I use your name as a sort of character reference? Or might this not be such a good idea, given the circumstances?

It certainly puts a fellow in a tizzy, dontcha think? I wonder what Iris would advise? Or maybe better to ask Peter?

• Wilde Rover

Sammy Morse,

“Oh, we’re going to take over now, are we?”

Only for a little while Sammy. You will be overthrown by a secret cabal of bi-sexuals that will have infiltrated your ranks.

Of course, the reign of the bi-sexuals will come to an end once the Flying Spaghetti Monster reveals Himself in all His glory, followed by a thousand years of utopia under the rule of the benevolent Pastafarians.

• Rory

Maybe we should go easy on Iris for after all she is also deeply concerned about the consequences of a recent Presedential election. Her concern centres around President-elect, Abraham Lincoln’s promise to introduce legislation that would ease restrictions on yet another group who have been biblically designated as abominable – the sons of Ham!

A spokesman for Mrs Robinson (me) added:

“We simply cannot have these people running around free to spread their pernicious practices like eating ham hocks with collard greens, dancing joyfully (and with skill) and smiling even when there are no cameras about. No decent Christian society would tolerate it.”

Help is at hand Rory
Not from a labour supporter and member like me,but Hansard again 20th May 08 Iris Robinson MP.It can not be right to have IVF without a male role model as woman was made from adams rib and put on earth to be his helpmate.
If there is even a hint of femenism in herself she will get back to the thread.

• pith

The problem with Mrs Robinson’s type of fertility treatment is that only fully-grown women can be made from a men’s ribs which is not something most people seeking IVF treatment really want. Could you imagine going to the clinic with dreams of the patter of tiny feet and ending up with, say an Iris Robinson in the cot?

• Greagoir O’ Frainclin

Before condemning gay people in the name of god or whatever, but the anti-gay folk like Iris, etc… should always consider all those gay men and gay women serving in the British Army and the security forces, the hospitals etc…who do their bit for society as well… (and they probably do a lot more than their critics in question too).
