Goodbye from Paisley, hello Peter…

Martin Rowson’s cartoon in the Guardian today captures at least one aspect of Peter Robinson’s position once the Doc calls time on his fleetingly brief own term in office…

, ,

  • It was Sammy Mc Nally what done it

Based on his showing yesterday with Cowen he will do well. Difficult to know if the loss of Paisley’s charisma will be be offset by a more secular image for DUP. But can’t help equating Paisley’s departure somehow with the continuing decline in Unionist influence in the Non Iron and for many Unionists presumably the union will not feel so safe with the new guard dog not looking quite so fierce.

  • Yes, but Martyn Turner in the Irish Times has, for me, more subtlety and point.

And, yes, it’s on line at http://www.ireland.com/cartoons/turner/2008/0415/

Bye Bye Tony, Cheerio Bertie, Farewell Ian…

    Gerry — you’re next.

    mick/malcolm/mark,

All good cartoons 🙂 As I see it

Martin Rowson got the past spot on
Martyn Turner ditto for the present
But Ian Knox gets top marks for the future.

  • DUP ex-voter

Paisley got away with being an ignorant, sectarian bigot for he was old: what has Robinson got going for him?
As another poster said somewhere else when the MP ‘John Lewis’ list is revealed, when we find out who authorised the leaking of the Paisley Jnr infomation from the DUP camp, who knew about the secret IRA/DUP talks, and the true deal between Donaldson and Robinson then i don’t think the voters will be too happy; least of all the DUP grassroots.

  • 6countyprod

DUP ex-voter, or should that be Ex DUP voter,

Just wondering when you would have voted for the DUP. Before Big Ian was an ‘ignorant, sectarian bigot’?

    Nevin

thats too bad I think you could have used a National Stadium. I just hope SF doesnt collapse and let them build it in the DUP’s backyard or split the money into a number of different facilities

As the head of all the different sporting associations said when they refused to meet with this pack of jokers to disucss alternatives, Maze is the right place end of.

  • Comrade Stalin

Paisley got away with being an ignorant, sectarian bigot for he was old: what has Robinson got going for him?

Why don’t you explain it to us ? You’re the one who voted DUP.

when we find out who authorised the leaking of the Paisley Jnr infomation from the DUP camp

What information was leaked from DUP sources ?

  • “It shows how the plan’s two most controversial elements – a 42,500-seater stadium and a conflict transformation centre, featuring some of the old prison’s most controversial history – are to be married together.” .. BBC

Steve, sport and ‘politics’ IMO are best kept apart, especially here.

  • Philip

How you can be a DUP ex-voter and still vote for a bigot is beyond me but maybe it says more for the party that you could not vote for! I would like to know more about your theories for there is an analogy here between Brown and Blair so it is not beyond the realms of possibility.

  • Steve

everything and politics are mixed together especially there

ALL major sporting organizations agree that the Maze is the best place, so why does unionist intransigence trump need and agreement?

I say let the other stadiums crumble and show some republican intransigence

After all the GAA is the organization least in need and the football and rugby organizations in most need
