SF office attacked

A Sinn Féin office in the Creggan area of Londonderry was attacked around midnight last night with three petrol bombs causing minor damage to an exterior wall and windows. Whilst that report notes that “The motive is unclear”, the BBC report also notes the coincidental attendance at a local DPP meeting of three SF councillors. And the response from SF MLA Martina Anderson – “Sinn Fein assembly member Martina Anderson said “an anti-community element” was most likely to blame for the attack.” [not an anti-Sinn Féin element? – Ed] Adds “another sinister development.”

  • ”not an anti sinn fein element?”

    My thoughts too Pete.

I see that Ogra Fianna Fails new branch are continuing to push ahead with their offensive…

Perhaps even a radical departure for the new SDLP youth Sticksheep!

    an anti-community element,

So Sinn Féin do not jsut represent the community- they are the community.

Next we’ll be hearing about anti-community activists!

I’m wondering who the posters above think carried out this attack – if it wasn’t local hoods and common or garden scumbags then who was it?

The ‘Direct`Action’ wing of the SDLP maybe? The ‘Kale Borroka’ faction of the UUP?

How come when someone attacks the loyalists its an attack on the community but the same posters then come on here and complain when republicans parrot them

Sean: “How come when someone attacks the loyalists its an attack on the community but the same posters then come on here and complain when republicans parrot them?”

Primarily, it would require them to abandon their internal “script” if you will — people have expectations oriented to their own point of view, usually tribal — “us good, them bad.”

The same event, albeit with an opposite political “polarity”, does not have the same impact because it happened to “the other.”

  • Sean

Thanks dread I actually figured that out for myself was just trying to point out the hypocracy by asking pointed questions.

I have to be careful apparently direct attacks on loyalism are not welcome on here

  • no irish here

Gotta say – clearlt there was an attack. It will have an impact on the local area – so why is everyone taking the piss.

Read between the lines, for goodness sake. The hints above are that it was dissident republicans or hoods. Decoded, that’s what Martina is saying, otherwise she would be referring to ‘sectarian’ or ‘anti-nationalist’ elements.
The attackers could even be the same ones who burned the Methodist Church (is that what you meant by ‘attacks the loyalists’?)

Sometimes subtlety is not the best weapon, Sean.

Hypocrisy occasionally needs it nose rubbed in the obvious.

Besides, it was a more constructive answer than the old chestnut about the difference between comedy and tragedy.

Good grief Sean do you actually believe it was loyalists who attacked a Sinn Fein office in Creggan in the middle of the night? The boyos who attacked this office are the new generation of wee republican thugs who spent the 1970’s and 80’s attacking the homes and offices of the SDLP, is throwing a petrol bomb at John Hume’s house or leaving a hoax bomb outside Pat Ramsey’s kitchen window an “attack on the community” or is it only when Shinners are on the receiving end that you get aggrieved?

  • Michael McMonagle

it seems a strange coincidence that the attack came on the very same day as the Derry Sinn Féin website posted a map featuring directions of how to get to the. I know the anti-agreement republicans have beenb accused of lacking direction but this is ridiculous.

Thank you for your clairovoyance to clear up this issue. How silly of me to think the wee sweeties in the alphabet murder gangs might be up to no good, I mean they have surendered all their weapons and taken up community work(if the nasty Fenians would only surrender THEIR money) And of course it has to be them damn lazy drunk dole gathering Fenian F**kers because of course the prods are all about abstaining and hard work.

Again thank You for enlightening my obviously misdirected intelect, and just because everything you enlightened me about happened 10,20,or 30 years ago theres no reason we cant hold it against them even most of them werent likely even born when these things happened

Alright Sean, take a couple of paracetamols and lie down in a dark room, if you want to believe there are mobs of Orange thugs roaming the streets of Creggan at midnight attacking Sinn Fein offices with impunity then knock yourself out big fella.

Meanwhile the rest of us will be too kind to point out what a clown that makes you appear.

Pete has been called many things. Pro-Sinn Fein was never one of them!

  • Blackadder

You’d have to be deluded to believe it was loyalists who carried out this attack

The Methodist Church was not burned. It was burgled. A number of doors were kicked down and drawers upended. I agree it could be the same attackers.
