A marriage made in City Hall… or not

WHILE down at City Hall yesterday registering Baby Gonzo’s birth, I remarked to the clerk that I thought the place was supposed to be closed for refurbishment. Apparently it was supposed to be closed from July, but the Council postponed total closure until September, with everything moving to more mundane offices at Adelaide Exchange – including civil marriage ceremonies. No big deal, but after numerous summer weddings were moved elsewhere after being informed about a July closure, only to discover that they could have gone ahead at the fantastic City Hall location up until September, it’s almost comforting to know that Belfast Council is still capable of screwing up the biggest day of your life!
