Trouble at t’BBC mill

The broadcasting workers’ union, BECTU, are to stage a 24-hour strike on 26 February after members voted in favour of industrial action. According to the BBC’s own report, “Bectu official Luke Crawley said the row centred on fewer than 10 compulsory redundancies among journalists and broadcasting staff.” Alternatively, as the NUJ statement tactfully puts it “BBC job cuts strike – all out February 26″… Whether any of our local politicians will cross any picket lines in the teeth of an election campaign is, as yet, unknown.. Adds According to the MediaGuardian report, two of those compulsory redundancies are on Newsnight.
