Another two SF MLAs to stand down?

It looks like Thomas O’Reilly MLA in Fermanagh South Tyrone is standing down. This time he is explicit in saying it is not to do with policing (subs needed). Indeed there has been some speculation that Francie Molloy, currently in Mid Ulster, might be better played closer to his own power base around Pomeroy Coalisland in that constituency (which would then make the who of Mid Ulster well worth watching). The other name is Philip McGuigan in North Antrim who, despite having built a large personal vote in the constituency, is said to have caused some waves for the party over the handling of his environment brief.

  • Yokel

God McGuigan was one of the stars of the last election too absolutely skating in.

  • Kenny Rodgers

It was always a gamble keeping McGuigan around.

Are there going to be any sitting SF Assembly Members running again this time round?

  • Sammy Morse

might be better played closer to his own power base around Pomeroy in that constituency

Surely Pomeroy is in Mid Ulster? Cappagh is the first village in FST heading out that way.

  • Yokel

Marty & Gerry are standing down for personal reasons. I hear elevation to the House of Lords will follow though..

  • Glen Taisie

Can someone please comment on the reported abduction of Sinn Fein MLA Philip McGuigan.

    Was it

a, because of his appointment by Denis Donaldson?

b, due to a massive online gambling debt?

c,or did his car simply breakdown and he wondered off leaving the keys and car open with mobile phone and diary intact?

You may have me on that. I’ll go back and check.

  • Yokel

Have you ever had a moment where you realise what you are doing is somewhat against some of the ideas you might espouse.

Philip is in his car, he realises he doesn’t need it. Shocked at this revelation, he gets out and walks. He is an environment spokesperson after all.

If it isnt that then its securocrats, obviously. What more do you need to know?

Worth pointing out Thomas’ own words:
“I want to concentrate on the council elections of 2008 for the super-council elections..I am fully behind the party and believe in what we are doing, with reference to policing especially.”

Clearly, unlike Geraldine Dougan, Thomas is intending on remaining a party member and indeed contesting future elections for the party.

Glen Taisie seems to have a rather unhealthy obsession with Mr McGuigan going back to August of last year. Does Mr Glen Taisie:

a)Believe everything he/she reads in the sunday tabloids?

    b) Smoke pot in the back streets of Ballycastle?

    c) Did G-Taise try to abduct Mr McGuigan himself, got a big turn-down and then went bunny-boiler when the press didn’t make a big thing of it?

Funny, but definitely playing the man.

I understand that incident was related to health problems, which may be another factor in the party’s efforts to unseat him.

Coalisland, like Pomeroy, is in Mid Ulster. It was transferred out of Fermanagh & ST in the mid-90s boundary changes.

I doubt such a move would make a difference anyway as in FST, the SDLP have a comfortable quota and Nationalist parties are still some way off a fourth seat there.

  • MÓG

    Coalisland is in Mid-Ulster constituency.

  • Mick Fealty

    Note to self: stop digging!

  • godsdog

Oh Please, can we please stop with the bullshit stories about Sinn Fein, I heard Barry McIduff is joining the SDLP and his membership is being endorsed by Denis Faul, from the grave,

  • Pat Mc Larnon

‘Please, can we please stop with the bullshit stories about Sinn Fein,’

SF were, are and for some time will be the story, which is just about right.

  • time will tell

Wee Phil did do his balls in on-line and was staying at the SF offices cos he had nowhere else to go, he’s a nice lad who hurt himself more than others with his actions, but the Belfast based trash that were blackmailing him for the last year about his problem should go and die in a ditch somewhere your scum

  • Crataegus

I must confess I am thoroughly enjoying the SF stories and the valiant defences and denials.

It is amazing how people, who but a year ago were good solid workers putting in 36 hours a day and farting cologne suddenly become, wild cards, unreliable, have poor judgement, were always a liability, suffer from halitosis and worship satin.

Please please keep it up it. It is part of the pantomime of elections where normally sound people suddenly become possessed and swear black is white, litter the streets with graffiti, and go door to door pedalling all sorts of nonsense. Their party is never wrong, they never lose seats, everyone is on board and they will sweep to victory. Better than that are the merchants of fear, the ones that arrive on the door after dark and swear that Armageddon will be on us unless we vote for them. Any wonder political types are considered a bit strange. Is it a disease or is it genetic?

Well he is my councillor/MLA and is/was also party spokesperson for TRUTH.

Perhaps we will soon hear the TRUTH.

btw I was introduced to the rumours by an elected Sinn Fein REPRESENTATIVE hence my curiosity.
