After you, no after you

The core stumbling block at St Andrews don’t seem to be what but when. The DUP want Sinn Fein to move first on policing while Sinn Fein want the DUP to create a full Executive and the devolution of powers first. The government proposals seem to have halved the orange with proposals for a shadow Executive. However it is unlikely the DUP will adopt the “We’ve jumped; you follow.” approach of David Trimble and the UUP.On MI5’s role in security it seems NI MP’s may be appointed to the Intelligence and Security Committee.

That message bar on the bottom of the posts is really annoying cuz it streches out the page and makes it wider rather than longer. I’d prefer it without. That’s just my opiion as a faithful (but silent) reader.

‘On MI5’s role in security it seems NI MP’s may be appointed to the Intelligence and Security Committee.’

    But not SF MPs?

  • Greenflag

    FD,

‘The core stumbling block at St Andrews don’t seem to be what but when.’

The core stumbling block is the fact that the DUP and SF are not negotiating directly face to face . Both are still ‘using’ the British Government/Irish Government as messenger boys .

    Just another farce .

Stop wasting taxpayers money and send the bums home .

  • Rubicon

GF, “Stop wasting taxpayers money and send the bums home.”

Do we have to have them back?

  • Mick Fealty

    Noted Abdul!

  • lib2016

Trimble broke the carefully timed and orchestrated arrangements contained in the GFA by refusing to set up the Assembly for 18 months and then imitating the revolving door attitude of the DUP with his on-again, off-again antics.

He destroyed his party and and moved onto the political equivalent of early retirement. If the DUP continue to emulate his actions they will achieve exactly the same results, which is one definition of madness.

  • Greenflag

    Rubicon,

‘Do we have to have them back?

Yiz elected them so yiz got them . Personally I’d sooner see the lot of them wintering in Spitzbergen or the South Georgian Islands by Antartica with no British or Irish government present to act as messenger boys /mediators .

Come spring they could send out a task force to bury what’s left .

  • Arthur Morgan

I think the message accross the page as opposed to down the side is extremely off putting.

  • Yokel

Greenflag they survived 30 years of being shot at and whatever else by being stubborn or in another way, resilient.

It’d take more than a trip to either of the earth’s poles to kill off these guys.

  • Greenflag

‘they survived 30 years of being shot at and whatever else by being stubborn or in another way, resilient.’

Shot at = Helps get more votes

    Stubborn = Thick as planks.

Resilient = If nothing else works then a total pig headed unwillingness to look facts in the face will see them through for another 40 years .

‘It’d take more than a trip to either of the earth’s poles to kill off these guys. ‘

I’ve no objection to the poles of Mars or Venus if that’s what it would take 🙂

  • Dread Cthulhu

It doesn’t even have the drama of “Throw me the idol, I’ll throw you the whip…

  • Yokel

Oh come on Greenflag, the atmosphere’s on those planets is no more toxic than the ones they live and breathe into…..

More than just a rumour..if you look at that the proposed sequencing is rumoured to be and what the concessions are the DUP apeear to have done rather well than you very much.

  • Can’t see a deal

Allister, Morrow, McCrea et al… have said too much too often in public against a deal to accept it now. Cant’s see the circumstances where the DUPs go forward into this timetable.

  • interested

Just seen on Sky News shot of St Andrews with “St Andrews Agreement” sign up in the background.

    Certainly looks interesting…..

Paisley’s stamp of approval would outweigh all those eejits taken together by ten to one. They don’t have the wit or the gravitas to set up their own anti-deal party.

  • Slugger O’Toole Admin

Some ejit is manufacturing news stories on here. Whoever it is has an axe to grind with the DUP. If you want to break real news, fine.

If you want to propagandise, do it in your own name!!

  • Bushmills

Paisley has pulled it off! Listening to Blair now!!

  • wee ulsterman

If it’s true that Allister and Morrow walked out on the DUP meeting to discuss the paper that’s surely relevant to post here, Allister’s defection in particular has huge implications for the process.

He was very conspicious by his absence from the dup press conference – if he was on board, the DUP spin boys would have had him front and centre. He wasn’t there at all.

    What’s going on here?

  • Greenflag

    Yokel,

‘ the DUP appear to have done rather well thank you very much’

If they have good luck to them . I just have a problem with it taking the DUP 40 years of farting around to get to this mid air point -yet again .

The whole feckin pieces process is a nonsense.
