a stationery challenge

I’ve just bought an exciting (for me) piece of machinery. Whilst mulling over my laminator, I considered what I would like to cover in this delightfully smooth plastic. Perhaps my memories of the Mournes or The Good Life re-runs. What then, would sluggerees, sluggerettes and sluggeroos like to capture and laminate of Ireland and why?

    and why?

  • rapunsel

    Sorry Dave. I forgot to say why. That’s probably obvious to the majority of posters–

    1. Because they are politicians

    2. Because they are liars

    3. Because they are useless

    4. Because they are self serving

    5. Because they get paid too much and I don’t get paid enough

    6. Because it would be funny welll I suppose that is debatable

  • Crataegus

    Rapunsel

    I would prefer to suspend them in formaldehyde in large tanks in the Tate modern or somewhere I’m unlikely to run into them, but then give their longevity perhaps some already have been at the formaldehyde.

  • I don’t claim to be a sluggeree, sluggerette or sluggeroo so I’m not telling ya :p

  • moochin photoman

    Haven’t they all been encased in plastic already?
    As MLA’s i’m sure they would have a lil bit o plastic in the form of an id card.

  • Donnacha

    I’d most like to preserve:
    The taste of Tayto cheese ‘n’ onion crisps;
    the first effects of ice-cold red lemonade on the back of the tongue;
    the smell of turf fires;
    the feeling of standing by the Atlantic looking west and dipping a toe in the water.

  • The Town Planner

    LARNE AND NEWRY…

    Then we could send them by post to Kabul and Baghdad to remind the locals there that it is actually possible to be in an even worse shithole

  • Kaido

    What’s wrong with the good old fashioned, tried and trusted, way of chopping off their heads and raising on a pikestaff outside city limits.

    Would definitely add a little spice to the daily commute.

  • Green Ink

    Don’t try to laminate any ultrasound printouts of babies on the way, as a friend of mine did and discovered that it’s heat sensitive paper…!

  • Yokel

    My car to protect the paint work…

    Let me know when you are ready thanks.

  • baldrick45

    Donnacha

    I like the way you’re thinking.

    Can I add;

    The first mouthful of cold beer on a friday night after a really hard week at work.

    The smell of bacon wafting up the stairs as you have a lazy morning lie-in in a good B&B

    The sea smell and burning sensation you get on your cheeks on a cold day at the cliffs of Moher as the wind blasts the rain against your face but you stand there admiring the view just the same.

    Come on people – a little more imagination and a little less politics for once!

  • circles

    I’d actually like to delaminate the fusty middle classes and their sofas and let a breeze of fresh air tickle their fancies.
    A bit of delamination of mid-ulster unionism and born again fundamentalism wouldn’t go amiss either.

    Would a blow torch be a suitable delaminating device?

  • Yokel

    I state again, my car…..

  • dave w

    great responses folks – keep ’em coming…

    i do have a lot more stationery (must get out more)

  • ozzy

    For me, the magic of Ireland especially that can be felt in such places as the Giants Courseway or Navan Fort, the simplicity of life which seems to be far less hetic that home in England, the openess and friendliness of the people I experienced on a visit, the beautiful coastline. What else can I add, may be I could pack my bags and move over to Ireland or is the grass always greener on the otherside?

  • darth rumsfeld

    the moment in the Alex Russell Stand after David Healy’s shot went into the net past Paul Robinson

    David Trimble’s face when the returning officer announced the result in Upper Bann

    The last leg of the evening walk home to the hall on the Twelfth

  • Yokel

    Rumsfeld

    Aon’t that a stagger on the evening walk home?

  • …reminds me of… A man went to the doctors covered in cling film and the doctor said to him “clearly I can see you’re nuts”
