No hate crime?

It has been claimed on this morning’s Nolan show (about 30 minutes in/Real player required) that there is no record of Northern Ireland’s hate crime laws having ever been used. They have been on the statute book for almost two years. This is despite a growth in racist attacks and continuing pattern of sectarian and homophobic attacks throughout this period.

From what I understand the hate crimes laws were first used to er.. prosecute a guy who chased Sammy Wilson around with his dog 😀

What about how most people feel about Stephen Nolan?

    Does that count?

It’s business as usual in NI. How many Asbos have been served or enforced within the same period? Why make laws if you’re not going to enforce them?
