Slugger picks up a GoldenEye, or two…

Just to let you know… Slugger picked up a couple of gongs last night at the Golden Eye Awards. We’ve picked up a good few online awards over the last few years, but this figures as one of the most important, since most of the companies we were up against were funded to the hilt in terms of software development and (without putting too fine a point on it) our marketing (and every other budget) remains were it was when when we started four years ago next month, zero. Breifly, I have to thank our readers, our dedicated band of bloggers and particularly a very talented Abi Davis and River Path, without whose help we would not be standing at the forefront of Web 2.0 in Northern Ireland… Now, back to business..

Apologies if this has already been pointed out. It’s the top story on BBC NI news website this morning.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/4996460.stm

“A website is inciting the murder of David Trimble, the former Ulster Unionist leader has claimed.”

Congratulations Mick. The recognition is well deserved. Although I don’t post as much as I used to, Slugger continues to lead the way for the rest of us would-be bloggers.

  • OC

    I’ve blogged the story earlier.

  • qubol

    pakman,
I can’t see any image for the verification thing on your blog. Instead I get a red X. I’ve a pretty standard setup here, with Internet Explorer 6. I might have another go later on another computer.

  • Mick,
    Brilliant news.
Slugger deserves a permanent seat on the norn iron assembley!
Perhaps you could write to the main parties DUP and SF, offering mediation, inviting Paisley and Adams onto the Web for an open discussion with us, your readers, vis-a-vis the current impasse.
    Democracy in action.

  • p.s regards more funds, its time for those Slugger T-Shirts and Coffee mugs to start rolling off the production line.
Make hay while the sun shines!

    Excellent news Mick.

I just wish a certain presenter who can be heard at 1200 most days on Radio Ulcer would give credit where credit is due.

He keeps boasting that the Beeb/Talkback is the premier discussion board – I don’t think so somehow.

    Congratulations Mick, well done.

Well done Slugger. The merchandising idea is a good one, I’d certainly consider buying a T-shirt with the slogan I’ve been red carded by Slugger O’Toole

  • qubol

regarding the merchandising – not sure how good it is but I heard about these guys who do merchandise stores:

  • wouldn’t it be funny to be on holiday in a remote region like the Himalayas,
ostensibly to “get away from it all”, and
the hiker coming towards you is wearing a Slugger’s T-Shirt.

  • Sean

Congratulations Mick, to you and all the Slugger denizens……Well Done….

  • SlugFest

Kudos to Mick and the whole team.

I’d love to sport a Slugger t-shirt … would also suggest some comfy pjs as well.

  • smirkyspice

mick you can add me to the list of slugger-stuff shoppers, you should go for it 🙂

  • How about a T-Shirt “I survived the pedantic nature of Willow and Davros” on the front and a Slugger Vetran on the back.

Would sell like hot cakes 😉

Well done again Mick, hope the ole head got better the other day. You looked rough LOL

Great ideas all. I’ve always resisted the merchandising route, because I think it’s the kind of thing that needs to be done well or not at all. We may have some developments on that score fairly soon. If/when we do, I’ll be letting you know. Thanks for the ideas and your kind good wishes.
