Despite the trappings of democracy, Sinn Fein seems determined to flag up the electorate that the Assembly without executive powers is a talking shop, and that it is not willing to engage with it. Whilst unionist MLAs were off at Hillsborough Castle to meet Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Sinn Fein MLAs were meeting to decide whether or not they would participate in this afternoon’s session in the main chamber. The business leaders meet this morning ‘in camera’ in the old Senate chamber, to finalise the agenda. If Sinn Fein don’t turn up, then the chamber is expected to be at best three quarters full.
